７月２１日カルガリー出発。到着は７月２２日。
ロンドンヒースロー空港までは直行便でたった８時間半のフライト。山からカルガリーまでハイウェイでだいたいそのくらいの時間かかるので、全く長く感じませんでした。ジュリも全然平気。
でも、夕方６時発の朝１０時半着。その日はとっても長い一日でした。
We left Calgary on the evening of 21st July and arrived at Heathrow airport on 22nd, 10:30 a.m. It was 8 hours and 30 minutes flight. It takes about the same time from our home to Calgary on highway, so we didn't feel it was a long flight at all. But we arrived in the morning, so it was a LONG day.
日本から飛んで英国に入る時とルートが違うため、結構長い間、こうやって英国の陸地を飛行機から眺めることができて、ワクワク感が募ります。
When we were getting close to the airport, the view made us(me) very excited.
エアカナダは６月にできたばかりのターミナル２を使用。
ピッカピカの空港。クィーンズターミナル、と言う名前の通り、紫と黄（金）と黒を使ったなかなかスタイリッシュな空港でした。
We arrived at Terminal 2, The Queen's Terminal, which opened in June, so everything was very shiny and new. The main colours were purple, yellow(gold?), black and white(silver), it was quite stylish.
ホテルはキングスクロス駅／ラッセルスクエア駅から歩いて１５分くらいのところをとりました。物価の高い英国、移動は地下鉄とバスですることに決めていたので、まずは交通機関で使うプリペイドカード、オイスターカードを購入して、ヒースローターミナル１２３駅からラッセルスクエアまで地下鉄で向かいました。これは私たちにとっては初。あんまり好きなシステムではなかったけれど、便利だしスピードはすごく上がって効率はいいでしょうね。
We booked a hotel about 15 minutes walk from King's Cross station and Russel Square station. We bought Oyster cards at the Heathrow terminal station and used them for tubes and buses. Oyster cards were new to us, I didn't like the system so much but I am sure it is very convenient and makes things much quicker.
久しぶりのこの感じ。湿気のある空気、駅内放送、地下鉄のやってくる時の風。懐かしい。
地下鉄の到着です。
The humidity, the smell, the station announcement, and the strong wind when the train comes, it all made me remember what it was like when I visited London before.
ジュリ、初めてのロンドンの地下鉄。
はじめはこんなに空いてました。街の中心部に近づくうちにぎゅうぎゅうになります。
Juliett's first underground experience. It was empty at the beginning but it got very busy when it got closer to the centre of London.
ヒースローから約１時間。ラッセルスクエア駅に到着。
いくつかの駅は壁のデザインが違ってそれを見るのが楽しかった。またそれものせますね。
ラッセルスクエアのタイルもかわいいです。
About an hour ride, we arrived at Russel Square station.
Some stations wall designs were different from others. I liked this one.
このフォント（Ｓを除いて）、デザイン、色の使い方、好きです。色違いも見かけました。
I like the font(except 's' ), design, and colours. We saw different colour ones at other stations.
これは駅の外側（別の日の写真）。濃い赤いタイルがかわいい。
地上に出るまで、エレベーター（リフト）を使わないと、１７５段の階段を登らないといけません。朝はリフト待ちで込んでいて、何度も階段で下りていい運動になりました。
駅から出て、とりあえずすぐ後ろのラッセルスクエア広場へ。
This is what the station looks like. I liked the dark red tiles too.
To come up to the ground level, if you don't take a lift, you have to walk up 175 stairs. In the morning, people were waiting to get in the lifts, so we walked down the steps, it was good exercise for us.
We walked to Russel Square park just behind the station to rest.
主人は英国についてから、ずっと「この国の木が好きだ」と言い続けていました。
大きくのびのびと育っている木々。カナダのもそうだけれど、種類が違う。つんつんの針葉樹はほとんど見なかったと思います。
Col has kept saying that he loves oak trees in England. I like them too. I like parks in London.
私たちが重い荷物を置いて休憩中、ジュリは葉っぱを拾ったり、てんとう虫を見つけたり。
While we were resting, Juliett was collecting leaves, stones, and finding bugs. :)
そして、ホテルに歩いて向かいました。
その途中、早速ブループラークを発見。これは、「誰々がこの建物に何年に暮らしていました」と１８６６年頃から著名人の暮らした記録として設置されてきているもの。昔はそれを探すのが好きで友達と歩いて探したものでした。今回初めて見つけたのは、シークレットエージェント、ジュリの好きそうなお仕事をしていた、しかもコードネームがホワイトラビットという方のものです。
旅中、写真はあまりとらなかったけれど、いろんなところでブループラーク、見かけました。
On the way to our hotel, we found our first blue plaque.
It was for a secret agent whose code name was "white rabbit", Juliett was excited. :)
I used to like to look for blue plaques in London. We saw some more during this trip, I will upload more photos later.
ホテルに着いて、少し休んでからキングスクロス駅に散歩に行きました。
