Arima Onsen

We stayed at a hotel in Arima, which is very famous for Onsen(hot springs).
After we left baggages at the hotel, we walked around in the Onsen town.

Arima Onsen tansan senbei, which is like a cracker,
made with flour, carbonated water, sugar and salt.
shops showed how to make the snack.
onsen-manju
steamed bun filled with sweet bean paste, yum!

Because of the rainy season right now, we have been having many rainy days. :(  But it is also a hydrangea blooming season. I enjoy seeing those beautiful colours everywhere.

After the walk, we went back to the hotel and had a great time in the onsen.
Then we went to have dinner. Our dinner was served in an individual tatami room. Julie was very impressed by those meals which were already prepared on each of the small tables. She told me that they looked like meals for Japanese princesses. :)

Julie had so much fun with her cousin. The hotel provide guests Yukata(casual kimono), Julie and he got kids-kimono. They looked very cute in them. :)

When we finished our dinner and went back to our rooms, Julie was very surprised by seeing futons were ready!(they prepare futon while guests are having dinner)

Next morning, we had gorgeous breakfast and left the hotel. What a great stay!

But we had to say good-bye to my brother and his family in the morning.

I was sad. I really wish that we live much closer to them, I have so many things I would love to do with them. They were so nice to us, they made perfectly perfect plans to welcome and entertain us.
We had a wonderful time with them.

Himeji Castle

On our second day in west Japan, we went to Himeji Castle.

That was where Col wanted to visit in Japan, so Julie and I took so many photos of the castle to show him. I have never been there before either. I was very impressed by the cool castle. It is amazing that the castle has been there for more that 600 years! What a long history!
I also thought it was very unique to see the big castle in a modern city.

I hope you all enjoy the photos we took.

Julie was impressed by the moat.

BEAUTIFUL!

you can see family crests on the tiles
we saw shooting holes(on the right wall).

we heard that there were 21 gates.
weapons racks
There were so many tourists in the castle, it took 1 hours to go up to the top floor(6th) and come down to the second floor. But it was worth being in the long line, the view from the top floor was awesome. Also it was so interesting to see inside of the castle, some parts of ceiling were so low, actually I bumped my head!

Luckily, it was a sunny day(super hot and humid though). We enjoyed walking around and in the castle. I hope we will go there again with Col next time. He will enjoy seeing it for sure.

Her jiji(grandpa) got her and her cousin ice cream. :)

fun trip to Kobe and Osaka

We went to Kobe to see our nephew!
We also did sightseeing around Kobe and Osaka.
We found a 'watch out for monkeys' sign by the highway.
I was quite impressed by the view from the highway, we have LOTS of green in Japan too. Mountains and hills were everywhere.
The highways are not free in Japan, we have to pay. There were many rest areas with a lot of  restaurants and souvenir shops by the highways. Julie and I were fascinated by their stylish and very well-taken-care-of wash rooms in those places. Julie took many photos in those wash rooms. :)

I took this photo, it was like a car parking sign but for wash rooms(tells which ones are available). How kind.

We don't have tunnels at Canadian highways(or I haven't seen one yet so far), but we drove through lots of tunnels.
On the way to, we saw some monorails. Cool!

Finally!
It was so much fun to play with my nephew! Awwww...he is SO adorable!
I enjoyed every moment with him, Last time we saw him, he was a 6 months old baby but now he runs, talks(very chatty), eats, dances, sings,....I was very happy to see him.
He and Julie played really well too.

I thought Julie had a great time with him, she learned a lot from being with him. I was glad that we had this visit.

My brother and sister-in-law were so nice, they took all of us(we went to visit them with my parents) to a very fancy Italian restaurant. I just put some photos but we ate much more pizza and pasta, salad and desserts than those photos.
They took us to a lovely sweets shop. They also made a great dinner.
I had a wonderful time with them all. I just wished if we lived more closer, we could do so many fun things together.... :(

to be continued...

our holiday has began

July 1st.
Julie and I started our summer adventure.

Julie took this photo for her daddy who loves air planes
We could see Calgary.
2 hour drive to an air port, then 1.5 hours flight to Calgary, then 12 hours flight to.....

My parents came to Narita airport to meet us. Then we drove home and ate Sushi, yay!!!
I couldn't believe that a plate of good sushi(2 pieces) cost only 90 cents... how lucky Japanese people are!

Julie and I will have lots of fun this 3 weeks in Japan.

As soon as we arrived to Japan, we felt humidity.
It is so HUMID here.... my hair is so curly and out of control...(my hair iron doesn't help at all!). We are having a super rainy day today. Well, it is a rainy season in Japan right now.
Julie is looking forward to find snails and other interesting bugs. :)
