ジャスパー国立公園に行って来ました。
今日はもう、自然の美しさに感動して胸がいっぱい。
たくさんブログに載せられるように写真を撮ってきたので、写真だけいっぱい載せます。
カナダのロッキー山脈の春の様子をお楽しみくださいね。
We went to Jasper yesterday, I was so impressed by the beautiful nature there.

I took so many photos there, I won't write so much but put lots of photos in this post.

ジュリとこの日帰り旅行でどのくらい野生動物が見つけられるか
チェックリストを作って出発しました。
Juliett and I made a "wild life I spy list" for her.
She was excited how many animals/birds/flowers/bugs she would see a day in Jasper.

国立公園の敷地内に入って少し走ると、すぐにこんな景色が広がります。
いつも見ている山とまた違う形、迫力です。
Huge and so beautiful!

まず向かったは Maligne Lake　
まだ湖の真ん中は氷が張っています。

車から降りて湖の周りを散歩。魚釣りしている人がいましたよ。
What a beautiful day!

湖のそばできれいな声で鳴いていたのはWarbler
Yellow-rumped warbler? We saw it by the lake.

ジュリと一緒に松ぼっくりの種を食べきるまで観察しました。
A cute squirrel! Juliett watched it whole the time it ate the pine cone.

カナダギース、おかえり！
Welcome back, Canadian geese!

黒のインパクトがなかなか強い、おしゃれな色合いですね。
Black and white, and gray beige, very stylish!

さて、マリーン湖からのジャスパーの市内に向けて戻る途中、私たちの前を通っていた観光バスが道路に横付けして止まっていました。
道路の途中でスピードを落としたり、ウインカーを出して止まっている車がある時には要注意。車に乗っている人たちの視線の先に、動物がいるかもしれません。
「なんだろう、バスが止まるって鹿とかそういうレベルじゃないよ。」と、徐行しながら追い越しながら見てみると。。。。！
After walking around Maligne Lake, we headed to Jasper downtown. On the way to Highway 16, we saw a tour bus was stopping by the shoulder, "they must be seeing something!" so we slowed down and looked the hill. by the road. We saw....

ブラックベア！斜面で何か食べてました。
時々道路の方を気にして見るので、写真の角度がうまく撮れなかったけれどお顔が見えました！

これにはかなり盛り上がりました。観光バス、ありがとう。
ジュリも動物リストでまさかの「ベア」をチェックすることが出来ました！

ジャスパー市内を観光。お店を見たり、ランチを食べたり。
ジュリは私が毛糸屋さんに行っている間に、タンポポ摘んだり。
熊の像と写真も。そうそう、実物もこういう鼻と口のところがベージュ色の熊でした。
We had lunch and walked around in down town. Juliett liked the bakery there.

そしてまた湖に向かいます。

カヌーに乗りました。ジュリも私も初！です。
We enjoyed canoeing! 

ダディとマミィが漕いでくれて気持ちがいいよ。
We all liked being on the lake. Nice and relax,.

主人はこういうのが得意なので、上手に漕ぎ方も教えてくれて、スイスイ進みました。
これは楽しい！湖の上、眺めは最高。とても気持ちが良かったです。

カナダ１ドルコインに描かれている水鳥、ルーンも気持ち良さそうでした。
We saw two loons.

一番最初のパノラマの写真はピラミッド湖のすぐ手前のパトリシア湖。
水の色がそれはそれはきれいで、私はバンフへの旅行で見たことがあったけれど、ジュリは初めて見たので、「水がエメラルド色だ！」と本当に感動していました。
Juliett was very impressed by the beautiful colour water at Patricia Lake(the first photo) and some lakes/rivers by highway.

帰り道に。こんなにきれいな色、ゼリーみたいです。
I like the colour too!

山々の迫力が本当にすごくて山の写真１００枚近く撮りました。
Mountains were so cool, I took about 100photos of them.

気持ちよかった！

ジャスパー国立公園の入り口の近くに温泉があります。帰りに温泉に浸かって帰ろうということに。
温泉は水着着用、男女兼用、肩まで浸かる深さと腰までと、小さめの水風呂あり。温泉はこの建物の後ろにあって、大きな山々に囲まれた景色を見ながら入ります。お天気で気温も高く、いも洗い状態でしたが、気持ち良かったです。「温泉」と呼ぶには風情がない感じで、どちらかと言うと温泉プールのようなところでしたが、お湯は天然温泉だそう。かなり山の中をくねくね入ったところにあるのですが、１９２０年代、人々は馬に乗ってこの温泉に来ていたと書いてあって、それはすごいことだと思いました。馬で、あの坂と距離、そして舗装されていなかっただろう道路を。。。
We also went to the hot spring on the way back. It was nice! Quite crowded though.
It was hot springs but not like Japanese Onsen at all, more casual and it was like warm pools in mountains. Juliett and Col liked it a lot, to me being warm bath with swim suits on was a bit strange.
I was surprised to hear that people in 1920's came to the hot springs by horses!

その帰り道。
And... on the way back to the highway,

「あれ、何かいる！」「鹿か？」「ちがう、ヤギ？いや、羊だ！」
"What's that?" "A deer?" "no, a goat? no,no, it's a sheep!"

斜面にさらに３頭、メス４頭のマウンテンシープです。
とても近くて、食べている音が聞こえて、目が美しかった！

熊よりも嬉しかった、羊！会わせてくれてどうもありがとう！！！
今回の旅の１番、ジュリは温泉、主人はカヌー、私はこのマウンテンシープに会えたことです。
This was one of my most exciting moments in Jasper, we saw 3 more sheep on the steep, they were soooooooooooooo beautiful! 

このあと、ハイウェイから山の斜面に熊の親子３頭発見、そして今回は写真すら撮らなかったけれど、鹿、たくさん。帰り道途中で寝てしまったジュリのチェックリストはこちら。

ジュリが見たかったのは、野うさぎとか、ピカ（なきうさぎ）、あとはロビンが（リスト、次のページは鳥）見たかったようなんだけれど、そういう小動物はりすしか会いませんでした。
Juliett wanted to see small cute animals, such as rabbits, pikas, and robins. But we only saw a squirrel.

りす１、ワーブラー１、ファルカン１、ダック２、ルーン２、マウンテンシープ４、熊４、エルク７、カナダギースと鹿３０近く。たくさんの野生動物に会えました。
1 Squirrel, 1 Warbler, 1 Falcon, 2 Ducks, 2 Loons, 4 Mountain sheep, 4 Bears, 7 Elk, and lots(about 30) Canadian Geese and Deer. Wow, we saw so many wild animals and birds.

朝早くから夜まで丸１日ジャスパーで楽しんできました。
観光地ではあるけれど、バンフほど混み混みではなくて、町のサイズもいいなと思いました。
何より、うちから１時間半で行けたと言うことにびっくり。この夏もこの町に暮らせるようだったら、また遊びに行こうと思います。今日見ることができた湖や川はほんのほんの一握り、まだまだいっぱい美しいところがあります。
We spent a whole day in Jasper, now we know that it takes only 1 and a half hours to get there from home. If we can be in this town next year, we will visit there many times through Spring, Summer, and fall for sure!
Col's best of the day was canoeing, Juliett's was the hot springs, mine was seeing the sheep. :)

結婚記念日をお祝いは、レストランやプレゼントでなくてジャスパーに行こう！と決めた私たち。
家族３人、とてもいい時間を過ごすことができました。
Col and I decided to go to Jasper instead of buying gifts each other or going out to a nice restaurant for our 9th wedding anniversary, I thought that was a great choice and I had tons of priceless experiences there!

interesting sounds / my 'want to see' list

昨日の夜、嬉しいことがありました。
フェルトのバッグを外のデッキに干していて、それをすっかり忘れていました。寝ようと思った時に 思い出して外に出てみると、こうやって月や星を見るのは久しぶり。一人でデッキで少しぼぉっとしてました。前の村ではプラネタリウムにいるみたいに星が見えたけれどなぁ。。。なんて思い出しながら。
I had an interesting experience last night.
I forgot about my felt bag hanging on Col's bicycle on the deck outside, when I was in bed, I remembered it and went to the deck to pick it up.
I haven't been outside at night time for a long time, I loved seeing stars and Northern Lights when we were in the village last year, but here, we have houses around and lights around and we can't see many stars.
I saw some stars and the moon, so I stayed outside for a while and saw the night sky.

その時に、鳥の鳴き声がきこえました。「コォコォコォコォコォコォコォ。。。　オココココ。。。」
明らかに山の前の林の中から聞こえてくる聞きなれない声。しんとした夜に響きます。
何の声なんだろうと思って、２階に走って行って、主人を連れてまたデッキに立って聞きました。
「オココココ。。。コォコォコォコォコォ。。。」カタカナで表記するのはとても難しい音。とにかく２人でしっかり聞いてから、コンピューターで何の鳥なのか検索開始。
私は全く見当もつかなかったけれど、主人は「あの声はふくろうの一種だと思う」と。
ロッキー山脈で見られるふくろうの声を聞き比べて、まさに外で聞いたものとぴったり来る声を発見。Boreal Owl（和名はキンメフクロウ）でした。
これには感動！
Then I heard a strange sound that I had never heard before. It went like "ho cococococococo..." (it's so hard to spell out the sounds), I heard it some times and I thought that was interesting. I went upstairs and brought Col back to the deck and we listened it together. We heard the sounds from the forest in front of the mountains, then we looked up some websites that you can listen the sounds of birds, Col thought that was by a kind of owls, I had no idea, so we checked owls'(in Alberta) sounds and found almost exactly the same sound with the sound we had just heard!
It was Boreal Owls'. I was very excited, I thought it was amazing that we could hear owls' sound at our condo. Isn't that wonderful?

たまには２階からの眺めを。
こちらからの方が山が大きく、真正面に見えます。
左側の森の方からフクロウの声が聞こえてきました。

偶然、この春になってから、周りの友達にフクロウをこの目で見てみたい、と話していた私。鳥に詳しい友達が「目で見るのはなかなか難しいかもしれないけれど、結構声は気をつけていたら聞こえるよ。」と教えてもらっていたところでした。
本当にフクロウがこの町の周りの森にいるんだと耳でわかった昨日の夜は、何だかウキウキでした。ちなみに別の友達からは「ハミングバードがいっぱい飛ぶからこの音が聞こえたらみてみて。」と音を教えてもらいました。
I have said to some friends that I wanted to see owls. And one of my friends told me that it was much easier to hear them than to see them. So I was curious what kind of sounds they make. Other friend told me that we could see humming birds very easily and she told us the sound, that made Juliett and I were excited too.

写真がないブログと言うのも寂しいので、日本に帰ったときに行った那須どうぶつ王国で見たふくろう・みみずくの写真
を。名前はどうぶつ王国のウェブサイトで見つけました。
I don't have those birds photos..... I would like to take photos of them someday though.
So, I am attaching the owls photos I took at a zoo in Japan.

これはちょっと怖い。本当にお面をかぶっているみたい。

カ ナダに来る前の私は「フクロウが見たい」「もう一度イーグルを見てみたい」そういう感じではなかったです。どちらかと言うと、「あそこのお店（といっ ても高級店ではない）の新しく出たあれが見たい」「どこどこの何かを食べてみたい」そういう感じでした。
おしゃれなお店もかわいい雑貨屋も本屋もギャラリーもひとつもなくて、おいしいパン屋もカフェもなくて、そんな環境に馴染めるだろうか。。。なんて村に越した時はショックでどうしようかと思ったけれど、なるようになるもんですね。もちろんお店やカフェは今も恋しいけれど。住めば都、そこでなりの興味を見つけるものなんだなぁと。
"I would like to see owls!" I am really hoping so.
But if you know me for a long time, maybe since I was in university, you would be so surprised to hear that I am saying I would like to see owls or eagles or .. mountain goats.
Because I was more like a city girl? I would say, " I would like to see this Spring collections at that store!" or "I would like to try the new drink/bread/dessert at that cafe!".
So I was very shocked and I worried if I could enjoy my life there when we moved to the village, where they didn't have any cafes, bakeries, fancy stores, book stores, and department stores or shopping malls last year.
I had homesick and had some hard times but I actually enjoyed being close to the nature. I was also so lucky to meet good friends who know lots about nature, trees, flowers, bugs, birds, and so on.

この夏の目標はフクロウ・マウンテンゴウト・ビックホーンシープを見ること。ムースはチェックリストから消えたし、熊もバンフで見たことがあるし。。。まだビーバーも見ていないのでビーバーもリストに♪
I loved the beautiful night sky in the village, some birds that visited our yard (wood peckers, robins, and flickers), and I appreciate to be in mountains now. On my "want to see" list, there are owls, big horn sheep, mountain goats, and beavers. I have seen a bear, moose, elks, deer from car.

と、ここまで書いて、ジュリの前歯がとうとうグラグラしてきたことをカルガリーのナナ・パパに伝えようとスカイプしたら、「先週、フクロウの赤ちゃん３羽とおとうさん鳥（もちろん自然の）を見たよ！」と。なんといいタイミング！巣から赤ちゃんのすっごいふわふわの頭と割に合わないくらい大きな目が見えたそう。ますますワクワクしてきました。私も、見るぞ、自然のフクロウ！
We Skyped Juliett's Nana and Papa today and told them that Col and I heard the owls sounds, then they said that they SAW 3 owlets and a male owl at a nest last weekend! How exciting!
Now we are really excited seeing wild life in the Rocky Mountains!

来週の月曜日はヴィクトリア・デー、祝日です。５月のこの３連休は人々がガーデニングやキャンピングにと、とても活動的になる始まりの連休みたいなものです。今日はまだ木曜日だけれど、明日の学校をスキップして（金曜は午前中なのでそれもあり）キャンプに向かう大きなキャンパーを引いた車たちを何台も見ました。さすが山の中の町。アウトドア活動が好きな方々がきっと多いんだろうな、天気が落ち着いてきてからみんながそわそわ、なんだか嬉しそうにしているのがわかるし、急に 人口が増えたように感じるくらい人に会うし、みんな開放的だし、町がなんだか賑やかになってきた感じがします。
みなさんも良い週末を！
We are having a long weekend soon. I can feel everyone is excited going out for the weekend, I volunteered today and talked to moms, they all sounded so happy to have Spring finally and they were talking about camping and gardening. Since the weather started being nice, I have even felt that the population of this town increased so much, I didn't see so many people outside in winter time but now people everywhere! and they look happy!

felting experience / the 9th anniversary

日本で買った編み物の本、サイチカさんの「ニットバッグ　レシピ」　文化出版局。
表紙のバッグがとにかくかわいくて、アラン模様だったり、ポコポコ、ポップコーン模様のついたバッグ、実際に持つにはどんな格好を合わせたらいいかわからないけれど、こういう写真に弱くて、つい購入しました。毛糸の色もくたっとした感じもすごくいい。
I bought some knitting books in Japan, there many projects I would like to try in the books.

窓からの景色も春（夏）らしくなってきて、重い編み物をする気分でもなくなって、でも編み物をする時間は無心になれて、運良くば頭痛だって治る、そういう時間なので私には少し必要。
この本を買った時には作りたいな、とは思わなかったバッグだけれど、編み物の練習のために「編みフェルトの三角バッグ」を作ってみることにしました。
It's Spring and we will have Summer soon, my image of knitting is a winter activity but I love my knitting time, I can concentrate/focus on my project without thinking/worrying and also sometimes my migraine goes away when I knit. 

新しく必要な技術は靴下のかかとを編む「引き返し編み」と編んだものをフェルト化させること。
靴下のかかとを２つ向かい合わせにつなげてバッグの底の部分が出来る、そんなバッグです。
靴下。。。難しそうで編んだことがなかったんですよね。。。
I decided to try something new that I need to learn a new skill to make it. I chose " felted triangle bag" from the book(picture above). To make the bag, I needed to know how to knit heels for socks and also how to felt. I have never knitted socks yet.

編み図を見ながら格闘。とりあえずかかとの部分を２つ編んで、何となく大きなバッグが出来ました。思っていたよりもずっと時間がかかった。。。このくらいで疲れたと言っているので、長くてひたすらメリヤス編みを編むセーターとか、まだまだ私には遠い先なんだろうなぁ。。。と思いながら編みました。
It was tricky at the beginning and it didn't look beautiful at all. I kind of knitted 2 heels and knitted the bag seeing the chart in the book, but I wasn't sure it was right because the bag looked very....ugly.
It might looks small but it was quite big, about 40cm x 55cm.

こ、これは酷い。。

しかも巨大で見た目が本当に落ち込むほど悪く、これはお蔵入りの作品になるだろうな。。。とイヤな予感がするも、とりあえず最後のフェルト化というところまでやってみようと昨夜編み終わったバッグを今朝、台所のシンクでフェルト化に挑戦してみました。
It is embarrassing to show this bag...  I was quite disappointed and almost gave up continuing.
But I thought I should felt it and see how it would turn to be.

はじめは５０℃くらいのお湯にシャンプーを入れてもみもみ。でもぜんぜん縮む様子もなくて、本当にウール１００パーセントなのかと疑い始める。
I have made my sweater felted by accident, but I have never done felting by hand(I took a needle felt class and made a bear before but it is different). I put the bag in the kitchen sink and poured about 50 degree warm water and some shampoo and started washing/scrubbing/rubbing. The first 30 or 40 minutes I wasn't sure it was felted.  

また少し温度を上げてひたすらこする、もむ、それを続けていくうちに（４０分くらい）、あれ？ちょっと硬くなってきたかも。と気づく瞬間があって、そこからまたゴシゴシ、温度を少しずつ上げてもみ続けたら、フェルトになってきました！
Gradually I added warmer water and I noticed it started to be felted. 

お湯が熱いので皿洗い用のゴム手袋をつけてこすります。「フェルト作り」ってかわいい感じの印象があったけれど、これはもう作業。熱いお湯の蒸気で汗をかきながら手でフェルトにしていきます。ちなみに、洗濯機に入れて回す、と言う方法もあるけれど、うちは下に住んでいる人と洗濯機をシェアしているので、何となくそういう自由はきかず、手作業です。
It was a hard work, much harder than I imagined. We share the washing machine with downstair people and I didn't want to use it for my hobby, so I did everything by hand. 

そして、そして、本のサイズを基準にこのくらいのサイズがちょうどいいかな、と言うところまで縮めて、乾かします。バッグの表面を見ると、編み目が随分消えてフェルト化されたのがわかります。
See? It was felted! It was actually interesting to feel that the texture has changed.

　けれど。








何でこの色合いを選んだのか。出来上がってみてみると、GAPの子供水着にありそうな色合いのボーダーで、ちょっと首をかしげちゃうけれど、作ろうと思った時は春らしくて夏らしくておもしろいかな、と思ったのと、ウール１００パーセントの毛糸が１．９９ドルで売っていたのをまとめ買いしていたのがこの色だった（ピンクはジュリの手袋を編んだ残り）ということからこの色合いになりました。
The light blue merino 100% wool by Martha Stewart was on sale(50g for $1.99) and I used 3 balls to knit this bag. The pink wool yarn was left over from mittens for Juliett.
It was an usual colour combination to me, but I wanted to make something Spring-ish, bright, and fun. I don't know why but this bag reminds me GAP girls swimwear(I am not sure if they do/did have this colour swimwear though). 

これなら使えます♪お蔵入りはなしに。

かかとの編み方とフェルト化。２つの初めての作業をやってみて、やっぱり手作りって奥が深いと思いました。いつも思うけれど、何にしてもそうだけれど、はじめた人って本当にすごい。
時間をかけて大きい袋を編み、それを石鹸とお湯で縮めてしまう、なかなかの作業で、好きじゃないと出来ないことだと思います。同じようなバッグを作るんだったら布で縫って作った方がずっと簡単だし。でも味があって、面白いから、私ですらまたやってみたいと思ったりするんですね。

編んで作るバッグはかわいいけれど、内布をつけないと、ペンや細いものが網目から抜けて落ちてしまうという難点があります。でも、こうやってフェルト化することで、厚いフェルトで作ったようなバッグになるので、底から何かがするりと抜けてしまう心配もなくて安心。編んだものとは違うまた別のほっこりした感じが魅力なんだろうなぁ。
フェルトの仕方がわかったので、ちょっとこういう大きいものは疲れちゃったけれど、コースターとか編んでみたら面白いかもと思いました。
I have knitted a bag before and found that if you don't sew fabric liner for the bag, your pencils or pens or something thin might fall off from the bag. But this felted bag, you don't need to worry about that. Now I know how to felt, I thought it would be fun to knit coasters or something small and felt after.

ちなみに、朝からこんな作業してる今日は私たちの９回目の結婚記念日です。
出会って１１年。朝、ジュリを学校まで歩いて送る時にジュリが「ダディとどういう風に会ったの？」なんて聞くので、そんな話をしながら歩きました。
By the way it's our 9th wedding anniversary today. It's been 11 years since I met Col. Wow.
Juliett was curious to hear how we met and she liked to hear the story, we talked about it on the way to school this morning.

バッグを乾かしながら作ったのはいつものスポンジケーキ。今日もふんわりしっとり焼けました。
夕食後にジュリがいちごの飾り付けを手伝ってくれました。
I baked my usual cake for dessert today.　Juliett did strawberries decorations.

夕食後に３人でお祝いしました。
来年は１０年。カナダに来て毎年のように引っ越すなかで、家族の絆の大切さをとても感じるようになりました。家族がしっかり繋がっていたら、どこでまた始めることになってもきっと大丈夫、そういう自信がだんだんついてきた気がします。ほっと安心できる家・家族がいることに感謝を改めて感じ、また日々の生活を元気に前向きにそして支えあって過ごしていこうと思います。

It will be the 10th next year. We have moved many times in Canada, through the experiences I learned how important family bonds was. We started our new lives at new places many times and I  always feel exciting and also scared to join new communities. But wherever we are, we have our family and that is our safe place and I feel we will be OK when I see my family. I really appreciate to my husband Col and our precious daughter Juliett. 

greener and greener

日に日に窓からの景色に色が増えていきます。山のふもとの林は数日前までベージュだったのに、この通り。ふわふわの黄緑色の葉っぱがぐんぐん増えていって、山や空の青と雲の白に良く映えます。秋の終わりに引っ越してきた時から深い緑だった木々。こんなに鮮やかで美しい黄緑色になるのね、と、毎日窓の外を見るたびに心躍ります。
Every morning, we notice that the trees are much greener than the day before and that makes us excited and happy. The new leaves colour is so beautiful and vivid, when the sun shines on them, they look so gorgeous.


先週滝を見に行って、「こんな環境に住んでいることに感謝、これから毎週家族でハイキングをしよう！」と盛り上がっていた家族3人でしたが、母の日は暴風、しかも雨が降っては止んで、を繰り返し、ハイキングどころか、偏頭痛が大暴れの1日でした。
We appreciate living in mountains, we enjoyed the picnic we went last week and decided to go on a hike every weekend, but yesterday was rainy/sunny/very windy. That caused my migraine badly.

それでも、気分転換に近くの湖に行ってみようということになり（車でたった10分）、ジュリは雨の中プレイグラウンドや砂浜で遊ぶも、大粒の雨と冷たい風に断念、山をドライブして帰ってきました。
To refresh our dull feeling, we drove to a lake(only 10 minutes drive), Juliett played a bit by the shore but it was so windy and we had rain, we drove around and came back. 

きれいな青空、でも反対側は雨の黒い雲なんです。

カナダではじめて見たつくし。

雨があがるたびに虹を探します。虹を見るとどうしてこんなにも嬉しい気持ちになるんだろう。いくつになっても。
ジュリは昨日の夜にちょうどベッドに行く前に虹を発見、仕事をしているダディにも見せてあげたいと、急いでカメラを取りに行って写真を撮っていました。
Rainy, then sunny, rainy again, then sun comes out,... that makes many rainbows. To see rainbows always make us feel happy. I guess it is not only us, lots of people like to see rainbows.
Juliett and I saw a big one just before Juliett goes to bed last night, she wanted to show it to Daddy, so she grabbed her camera and took some photos of it.

今日も同じような天気で、雨が振ったり止んだり。
ダディと一緒に登校したジュリ、朝から2人で虹をダブルで見たのだそう。学校に迎えにいったら嬉しそうに教えてくれました。
Juliett told me that she and Col saw double rainbows this morning. It has been rainy and sunny all day today too, we might see more rainbows this evening.

Happy Mother's Day!

ジュリのクラスでは金曜日に母の日ティーパーティーがありました。
みんなで素敵なポエム（詩）を読んでくれました。
They had a "Mother's Day Tea" at Juliett's class on Friday. They read a lovely poem.

みんなの母の日が素晴らしい一日になりますように。
母の日、おめでとう。おかあさん、ありがとう。
I hope all moms are having a wonderful mother's day today.

The Secret Garden

 「町に劇団が来るよ。」と、主人が情報を教えてくれたのが先週。ジュリがきっと興味を持つだろうと思って詳しく話を聞いてきてくれたようでした。
Col heard an interesting event in town for children. He thought Juliett would be interested in it. 

アメリカから劇団が町に１週間滞在する。劇団と言っても、来るのは指導員、メイクと衣装、舞台。ステージで実際に劇を演じるのはこの町の子供たち。対象はキンダーガーテンから高３まで。
月曜日にオーディションをしてキャストを決め、その日の夜から金曜まで放課後集中練習、そして土曜日に衣装とメイクをつけて舞台に立つ（町の人たちが見に来る）。という流れらしい。
It was about Missoula children's theater tour to our town. The group provides 2 actors/directors, make-up, costume, and scenery. That means the casts in the play are children in this town! The theatre people stay this town for a week, do an audition on Monday, then practice everyday till Friday. Then have shows(performances) for citizen on Saturday.

ジュリに話すと、やってみたい！と即答。
He told Juliett about it, she, of course, said " I would like to go to the audition!"

とりあえず月曜の放課後にオーディション兼練習会場の高校の体育館に行ってみると、そこには６０人近くの子供たちが集まっていました。
さっそく元気な２人の若者（指導者）が前に立ち、オーディションが始まります。
小さい子から年齢順に大きな円を描いて、指導者が言うせりふを感情を体いっぱい込めてみんなの前で言ってみたり、言われた動きをしてみたり。
On Monday, we went to the high school gym for the audition, there were about 60 children from kindergarten to high school.  The two theater directors started the audition.

子供たちがみんなとっても一生懸命取り組む姿に私は感動でした。
見た目がいわゆる若者な高校生たちも、びっくりしちゃうほど表現が上手で堂々と演技していて、いい意味でのショックでした。一人一人の演技を周りはみんなしっかり聞いていて、終ると必ず拍手をする、そういうのもいい姿勢だなと思ったし、本当にみんな真剣で、それでいて楽しそうで、かっこよかったんです。
I was so impressed by children's amazing acting, braveness, and liveliness. Everyone looked so happy acting and they were really good at saying what they had to say with emotion.

私は遠くで見ていたので、指導者の声がジムで響いて早くて何を言ってるかよく聞き取れなかったのだけれど、「”ペラペラペラペラ。”　はい、これをあなた２重人格の人が話すとしたらどういう風に言うか考えて言ってみて。」と振られて（これは高学年用）、とっさに考えて自分の味をつけて堂々と演技する高学年たち、すごかったです。
オーディションを終えて親の元に走って行く子供たちはみんなニコニコしていて、「あぁ、楽しかった！」って口々に。
Juliett looked a bit nervous but she also looked happy being in the big group doing something together. I was glad to have such a fun opportunity for her. 

最初から、ほぼ確実にオーディションに参加した全員を劇にキャストとして使う、と言うことは主人から聞いていたけれど、ジュリにはそれを言わないでいたので、ジュリは「私、受かったら嬉しいな、ガーデンでずっと両手を広げて立っている木の役でも、もしもイヤな虫の役になったって頑張るよ。」って言ってました。でも幼稚園生から２年生くらいまでの子供たちはみんな「お庭」の役で参加できると知って大喜び。その日の後半から練習が始まりました。劇は「秘密の花園」。
In fact, Col and I heard that usually all children at the audition would get some parts/roles, but we didn't tell that to Juliett. She was very glad to hear that all the kindergarten to grade 2 or 1 children were "garden" in the play "The secret garden" . 

学校を3時半に終えて、おやつと飲み物を口に急いで入れて、4時から高校で練習。練習は2時間。この町に来てから習い事も何もしていなかったジュリには珍しく忙しい1週間で、すっごい楽しい！と帰ってきて、夕飯とおふろを終えたら、私がベッドで読み聞かせしている途中にはいつの間にか寝てしまう、そんな感じでした。
They practiced for 2 hours every after school this week, Juliett hasn't taken any classes since we moved to this town, so this week was a very busy and active week for her, which was really good.  

そして本番の今日。
劇は3時と7時の2回だけれど、11時からリハとメイクなどがランチ持ちで始まって、ほぼ丸1日のイベントでした。ジュリは楽しみであんまり寝られなかったみたい。朝早く起きて、プレイモービルで「シークレットガーデン」ごっこをして一人で部屋で遊んでました。
The play was today, at 3:00 and 7:00 start, they got together at 11:00 a.m.  Juliett was very excited last night, she woke up early this morning and she was playing "the secret garden" with her playmobils in her room. :) 

3時のショーの少し早めにジムに行くと、子供たちが衣装を着ていてかわいかった！さすがちゃんとしたグループなだけあって、衣装も良くできてる。ジュリたちのガーデンは始めは長年手入れのされていないお庭なので、枯れはてた衣装です。
I was excited too, I arrived to the gym 30 minutes early for the play, I saw children wearing their costumes. "Garden" children were wearing 'the garden that hasn't taken care of for years' costume.

劇が始まりました。
私はたった5日でここまで小さな子供たちと作り上げた、その完成度に感心しっぱなしでした。この劇団の人たち、すごい。そして子供たちのやる気もすばらしい。
主人公のメアリーは本当この間のオーディションで選ばれた町の子なの？劇団が連れてきたプロじゃないの？って思うほど声も通って演技がとっても上手で、本気で驚きました。
The play started.
I was so impressed by their wonderful acts, it has been only 5 days since they had the audition! Especially, the girl who played the main character, Mary, was amazing, she was acting so Mary! How could she perform like that, she has a fantastic talent, that was what I thought.

メアリー、枯れ果てたお庭を助けて。

小説そのものをやるのかと思ったら、小さな子供たちにもわかりやすく楽しいようにアレンジされていて、小学3年生くらいのカナダギースのグループがいたり、森の楽しい小動物たちがいたり、いろんなところに笑いも組み込まれていて、楽しい劇でした。
The story was arranged to more child friendly style, lots of fun, laugh, and songs. They even had Canadian geese casts, younger children did great jobs too.

ありがとう、嬉しいお庭は花やフルーツでいっぱいに。

子供ってすごいもんだなぁ、 小学生と中学生が主だった、と言う話だけれど、みんな生き生きと、のびのびと台詞を言っていて、歌も何曲もあったけれど、しっかりと振りつきで歌えていて、私は3時のショーは一人で、7時のは主人と見たのだけれど、両方とも心から楽しませてもらいました。
Garden children did wonderful performances too, Juliett looked very happy in the play.

ガーデンたちは3曲を歌いました。「マミィとダディに届くようにベストを尽くすよ」って言っていたジュリの声もしっかり聞こえた。他のガーデンたちと一緒にとっても上手に振り付けしながら歌えていました。
I went to both 3:00 one and 7:00 one, Col came for 7:00 one, there were many people came to see the play. 

ジュリはパンジーでした。

「今度はお姉ちゃんたちみたいに、自分ひとりで言葉を言う役をしてみたいな。」とジュリ。
今までカルガリーのナナに何度も劇やミュージカルを見せてもらっていたジュリ、今回の経験を通じて、役の一つ一つの大切さや、舞台を作り上げるその裏でのたくさんのお仕事などいろいろなことを目で見て知ることが出来たんじゃないかと思います。
とてもいい経験をさせてもらったと思います。
" Next time, I would like to be a part that has my own line like grown-ups", this is what Juliett said after the play.
Her Nana has taken her(us) to see many plays and musicals and she loves them so much. I think Juliett learned a lot through this experience, she learned that all of the roles are important, and there are so many jobs behind the play. I believe that it was a great experience for her.
