Calgary Stampede Kids' Day 2013

We were planning to go back home(in mountains) on Wednesday, but it was Kids' Day at Stampede and it was a beautiful day, so we decided to join it instead of driving a whole day back home.

Thanks to Col's dad, who drove us to Stampede, we were there just before getting super busy, we got our free pancake breakfast and ate it and watched their show at the stadium.

I couldn't believe that about 2 weeks ago the stadium got so much water, it was done so nicely.

I wrote about Stampede when we went there 4 years ago, this and this.
I will show some photos I took at the festival, enjoy!

It was interesting to see making a horse shoe.
It was so much fun cheering for the race!
My favourite!

The big pretzel was not a pretzel, a pretzel shaped bread.

Col enjoyed a burger, root beer and this deep fried pickles.

We arrived there about 8:30 and stayed till 2:00! It was a hot day, if there were more shade, we might have stayed longer. We had so much fun, I also enjoyed looking through all the art and craft exhibit in the stadium. All the rides had long line, we didn't go to the aqua stadium. Juliett had fun playing at indoor kids' playground area.

Col's mom picked us up at the closest C-train station. I actually enjoyed the train ride, it reminded me the tubes in London.
We had a fantastic time in Calgary, I will write more about it later.
We arrived home this evening, it is only 8℃ here in mountains... we are hoping that we will have some more Summer days.

fantastic experiences in the city

We have been having a great time in Calgary. Col came back from camping with his good friends, he sounded he had a wonderful time with them, which was great!

Last evening, Mom took me to the theater to see "Les Miserables"! I had never seen it before, I even haven't watched the movie yet, I quickly learned the story on Internet(in Japanese) and prepared for the show, I was very excited.

I have visited London many times and have walked by theaters a lot but I had only seen "Chicago" at a theater there, I also have been to N.Y. , I went some art museums there but didn't go to a theater.

How lucky I was to have a chance to see Broadway musical, I was soooo excited.
There were so many stylish people there at the theater, it was really nice for me to see that side of Canada, I have seen lots of outdoor style people but didn't have so many chances to see stylish/dressed up/fashionable people. It was exciting and interesting.

During the musical, I cried A LOT. I worried if I would make sounds because I cried too much and I couldn't watch the stage straight. Maybe because I am a mom? I cried for the scenes of Fantine's death and Cosette, and her song so much.
The story was so powerful, the voices were very strong, beautiful and powerful too, I was very, very impressed.

Col's parents have seen the musical many times, Col has seen it too. I was surprised about Calgary where is even not a capital of the province but lots of famous art/music products come to.

I thanked Col's parents to give me the chance to see the musical. I would love to see the movie, and I also would love to listen to the music again. I was able to listen to lyrics of slow songs but the ones lots of people sang together were hard for me to understand.

                            ☆☆☆

While we were enjoying the musical, Juliett was watching the movie, "Despicable 2" with her papa and daddy. She was so excited about going to the movie, and also she enjoyed the movie, she told me that it was awesome.

We don't have a movie theater in our town, it is such a special treat to see those amazing show and movie in the city, which we can't do it in town.

Calgary, such a huge city, but they also have beautiful nature around, that is wonderful.
This is Juliett's Nana and Papa's neighbor park, I was very surprised to see the woodpecker's nest so close to the playground.

Juliett goes for a long walk with her papa everyday, she is having a wonderful time with her grand parents!

Calgary Stampede Parade 2013

Juliett, her papa, and I went to see Calgary Stampede Parade this morning. We saw Stampede Parade in 2009, since then we have seen small towns/village parades, so it was so exciting to see the huge parade for Juliett.

We left home at 7:00, we got a nice place to seat, then we enjoyed seeing some groups dancing until the parade started.

Well, I took many photos of the parade, have fun seeing those photos!

This year's Parade Marshal was Mr. Chris Hadfield! We were looking forward to seeing him.
He and the mayor passed quite quickly (because they were at the beginning of the parade), it was hard for me to take photos.

There were about 120 floats, it ended around 11:30. We enjoyed seeing the parade so much, Juliett's favourite was the library one(I have no photos of that, they had many characters from books) and the bands. I always enjoy seeing the beautiful costumes of aboriginal people. I liked bagpipe sound as well and I thought Calgary police was cool in black uniform with black cowboy hats(they weren't in the parade, they were there for the safe).

I saw many children in the parade(or pre-parade) dancing and marching so lively, and I thought if we lived in a big city like this, Juliett would have had more chances to enjoy many different activities and clubs.... and I was a bit disappointed about living in a small town.
But other than that, the parade was wonderful. Thanks to Papa who took us to the parade!

While we were waiting for the parade start, a lady gave Juliett a chalk and drew her silhouette, then Juliett drew mine and Papa's too(we lay down on the ground...). Juliett had fun drawing, I appreciated they kept kids fun and excited without getting bored till the parade.

It is nice to be in the city, I feel refreshing and also excited.
I hope Col is having a great time with his best friends in the mountains!

8 hours trip

We left home at 9:30 and arrived Calgary home at 5:30, it was an 8 hours trip.

Col got used to drive long distance and he drove the whole way from home(I offered driving though), I used to love driving in Japan but I don't like driving in Canada and I still get so nervous, I really thanked to him who did such a long drive for us.

He listens mostly pod casts and music when he drives, I have my ipod and listen to my favourite Japanese musician's songs and knit. I get sick easily so I never read books in car but luckily I found that I could knit. It was so fun knitting and I knitted and knitted, I started from zero this morning and finished the part at the end of the trip.

Juliett loves reading in the car, so does Col, they are so alike. During 7 hours drive, she read for more than 2 hours, slept for 1.5 hours, she played ipad for 2 hours,  and she chatted with me and enjoyed the city view after we entered to Calgary.

I have seen TV commercial that is showing McDonald's Lobster sandwich and I have never tried/heard about it before, so I wanted to try it. We decided to have lunch at McDonald's but they didn't have Lobster sandwiches...I wondered if I dreamed about the sandwich?  (I just found that they were only in New England and Canadian Maritimes, maybe I saw those area's programs because we have cable TV and we can see lots of different channels.)
But they were having happy meals with "Despicable Me 2" toys and Juliett was happy with the doll.

We had so much rain on the way from Edmonton to Calgary, it was like a storm.
After the 2 or 3 hours rain, the sun finally came out and I thought it was so nice to drive in the good weather condition.
Thanks to Col who drove all the way safe from home. He must be very tired...

We are looking forward to fun in City.

our extraordinary week with lots of friends

Is it the lucky golden mushroom(we found on the hike) effect or the double rainbow brought us some luck?
We had been quite quiet and alone since we moved to this town, but suddenly we had chances to meet our old friends, very suddenly.

We met 3 good friend families in this 7 days, unbelievable.

Last week our friends who live in Calgary visited us and stayed with us, then we met Juliett's best friend's family in GP, then today my Japanese friend who live in the village we lived last year and her family visited us.

Juliett was very excited about playing with her friends, I prepared casual lunch for them. It has been 8 months since we left the village, but after moving, my friend and I phone quite often and talk about things in Japanese, and I like that time a lot, we haven't seen any Japanese in our town and talking on the phone to her is very relaxing and I feel very comfortable to her. I was looking forward to having time with her and her family.

They visited us because her husband had work to do in our town. He finished early and joined us, Col was at school cleaning and planning but he came and joined us too, which was good.

They brought many souvenirs from Japan(they visited Japan this Spring too), it is so interesting to see those local souvenirs, I think.  If I lived in Shizuoka now, I wouldn't have chances to visit Kyusyu so often(I have been there once in my life), but people who I met in Canada were from everywhere in Japan, and I think to meet people from places I have never been is very interesting.

It was an extraordinary fun week, big thanks to our friends who made time to see us.

We are heading to Calgary tomorrow, Col will see his best friends and go annual camping with them, I guess his "meeting old friends" luck is still on!

double rainbow

After the rain, we saw a double rainbow.
I am glad to have some chances to wear my sleeveless tops these days.
Happy Summer!

Happy Birthday, Canada! / Seeing our favourite smiles.

Happy Canada Day!

We had lots of fun activities in our town today, breakfast, parade, BBQ, bouncy castles, free swim at the pool, spray park, free ice cream, zumba dance, more BBQ and fireworks! (the picture above, we saw fireworks from our bed room last night)

Walking to downtown, we saw Mt. Ambler that we climbed the day before.
We were going to join the fundraising pancake breakfast but our neighbors told us that it was very expensive, we already had some cereals and were going to see what it was like but decided not to.

So, I made maple leave pancake for Juliett and Col.

We went to see the parade to downtown. It was more than 30℃, so hot! Juliett was happy getting many candies, she also saw her classmate on a float.

She played with her classmates at the spray park in the morning, we all had the fundraising BBQ lunch, $5 for a burger and a drink, actually the burger was good.

In the afternoon while I was having a nap, Col took Juliett to the pool and they also went to the central park again and Juliett played in the bouncy castles and they both had free ice cream. ;)

                         ☆☆☆

On Saturday, we went to GP to see our friend family who came up to see their family in the north. They are the friends whom we spent so much time in the village last year with. It has been 10 months since they moved to the south and we haven't seen them since.
When I saw their familiar smiles, I was so happy, also, I can't describe well but I felt something like relieved and safe feelings, like "yes I know those are the smiles I like".
Both kids and couples had a really fun time chatting, laughing, and playing.
We said good bye to them as if we would see them next week like we did in the village.
I am hoping that we have chances to meet them again and again in the future.

Meeting friends, climbing the mountain, and Canada Day festival in town, what fun days!
We had a fantastic time this long weekend.
