今週は夢のような気温20度以上の毎日が続きました。
デッキでコーヒー（アイスコーヒーなんて日も！）、夕食（暑いのでサラダとパン）を何度もやりました。 あまりに暑くて、窓からデッキの枠に布をくくりつけて影を作ったりもしました。
It has been very warm. Everyday more than 20℃, unbelievable!
So I had coffee(sometimes iced coffee) at the deck, very nice, we also had supper(we had salads a lot) there many times! Lucky us!

今日は金曜日。ピザをまた焼こう、と言うことになりました。
個々にお気に入りのピザがあるのだけれど、毎回それでは飽きるので、ジェイミーの提案するピザを作ってみることにしました。
It is Friday, it's our pizza day! I decided to make something new from Jamie's book.

ジェイミーがイタリアを旅したイタリア料理の本、ピザはいくつも美味しそうなのが載っているのですが、なんせ山の中の町なもので、材料が揃わない。今日はちょっと奮発してプロシュート（生ハムかな）を、とスーパーに行ったけれど、なくてガックリ。そう言えばこの町にはお肉屋さんがないなぁ。。。前の村にはありました、狩で狩った動物も扱ってくれるお肉屋さんが。
In this book, he shows eight his favourite pizza toppings. I have thought/tried to make one or two before but always we didn't have ingredients such as fennel seeds, rocket, new potatoes, grapes, pancetta, anchovy,...  I went to the supermarket in town but they didn't have prochiutto...

ズッキーニとモッツァレラチーズを買って、あとは有り合わせのもので出来るものだけを選びました。何かの時にと思って買っておいたベィビーアーティチョークの瓶詰め。私たちにはちょっと高価食材を投入です。その代わり、プロシュートはないのでジュリがお弁当に持っていく無添加ハムで。
I decided to make two pizza toppings, I bought a zucchini and mozzarella cheese, I used regular ham instead of prochiutto. We had a jar of baby artichokes and that was a treat.

普段ピザを焼く時は、市販のピザソースを塗っているのですが、今回はプラムトマト（缶）を煮込んで作るソースも手作り。アーティチョーク、生卵、ズッキーニなど、いつもと違う食材がのるピザはとっても美味しそう。家でのピザ作りってなんだか楽しいのだけれど、新しいトッピングに挑戦するのってさらに楽しい。
Usually, we use a can/jar of pizza sauce we buy at stores but I made tomato sauce from the book. I felt good to make VERY homemade pizza.

いい具合に焼きあがりました。
まずピザ生地がとてもおいしい。もちもちで、エッジはカリカリで。今までドナ・ヘイさんのレシピで生地を作ってきたけれど、これは確実にジェイミーの生地の方がおいしいので変更です。材料は同じだけれど分量の違いでこうも違うんだなぁ。。。と。生地もすごく扱いやすかったです。

It was actually very good! Col and I liked the artichoke one. I liked the pizza dough, it was really smooth and easy to handle, it also had a good soft/crunchy texture after baked. I had been using Donna Hay's pizza dough recipe but I will use this recipe from now on.  

そしてトマトソースも市販のみたいにスパイスが強くなくて、それが逆に私は好きです。オリーブオイル、ガーリック（苦手なので量を減らしました）とバジルと少しの塩・こしょうしか加えないこのソース、気に入りました。
Also I liked the tomato sauce. Store ones have more strong spice flavour, maybe more salt too, Jamie's one was really simple and had good flavour.( I am not a big fan of garlic so I added less garlic. Sorry, Jamie.)

アーティチョークとオリーブ、プロシュートじゃなくて普通のハム、のピザは大好評でした。さすが贅沢な具、おいしいです。アーティチョーク、おいしい！次回は黒オリーブとプロシュートでさらに豪華に作ってみたいものです。
ズッキーニとスパイシーサラミのはまぁ、普通かな。大きな感動はありませんでした。いつも作るものに近いからかな。
The spicy salami one was OK, we both liked the artichoke one.
I look forward to make the one with real proschiutto. ;)

このページには他にアンチョビのとか、ポテトのとか、あとぶどうのピザなんかも載っているので街への買い物＆セールとタイミングが合った時に挑戦してみたいなと思います。
おいしい生地とトマトソースに出会えて良かったです。

上の写真は主人仕様の辛いのいっぱいピザと、ジュリのコーンチーズピザ。なかなか新しいものに挑戦しないジュリ、野菜不足は茹で野菜サラダで補給です。。。茹で野菜ならいっぱい食べてくれるのでまだいいのかもしれないけれど、別の食べ方でも野菜食べて欲しいなぁ。
This is Col's spicy pizza and Juliett's corn pizza. She doesn't like to try new food, so I often prepare boiled vegetables (she loves boiled vegetables) just in case when I make something new. I hope she enjoys home made pizza with more toppings.

咳がなかなか落ち着かず、前にブログに載せたはちみつに漬けたレモンスライスたっぷりをグリークヨーグルトと食べるのが毎日の日課となっていました。
でも、町のスーパーではオーガニックのレモンが売っていなくて、皮ごともりもり食べられるレモンが切れてしまった。。。　と、その時にお店で目に入ったのはルバーブ。
ルバーブ、酸っぱくて好きです。いちごや生姜と一緒に煮てくたっとしたものをバニラアイスクリームやヨーグルトにのせるのが好き。
I have been eating lemon slices in honey with Greek yogurt every day but our organic lemons are all gone now. I went to the town supermarket but they didn't have organic ones there. (I eat whole lemons so I thought organic ones were better.) I was a bit disappointed but instead of organic lemons, I found rhubarb. :) Rhubarb is one of the food I knew and started liking it after I moved to Canada.

なので、今回はルバーブを数本買ってコンポートを作ることに。
”Jamie at Home"は、私も趣味でする版画を使ったようなデザインの本になっていて、写真も美しく、色合いもいい感じで、季節によっての野菜の育て方等も載っていて、とても見るのが好きです。デザインとしては彼の本の中で一番好きな本。
でも、なかなか食材がうちにあるものと合わず、本に載っているものを簡単に作られないでいました。
I like Jamie's book, "Jamie at Home", because the design is different from his other books and it is more colourful and country-style look, I love the fonts and pictures that are look like block printed.
It also shows how to grow the ingredients at your garden, I like to see/read the book very much.
But we usually don't have enough ingredients for any dishes in the book and I haven't used it as a cooking recipe book, which is a bit sad. I remembered that it had "rhubarb" pages for Spring garden, so I decided to make compote from the pages.

ルバーブのページから、コンポートの部分だけ見てルバーブとオレンジのコンポートを作りました。
（と言っても煮るだけの超簡単なもの。レシピではオレンジはジュースのみだったけれど、もったいないので私は房の皮もそのまま。）
The recipe said "orange juice" but I wanted to cook with orange itself so I just cut some pieces and cooked with rhubarb.(I followed ingredients numbers and sizes.)

ヨーグルトにのせて食べてみたら、とっても美味しい。ルバーブの酸味とオレンジの甘い香りがとても合います。色もきれいで嬉しくなるデザート。
I ate it with Greek yogurt and it was delicious. I liked the orange's sweetness and rhubarb's sourness. I also love the colours!

でも、これにもう少し違う歯ごたえのものがあったらもっと楽しく食べられるんじゃないかと思って、シリアルを入れてみたけれど、物足りない。
前にお友達がお家でグラノラを作っていると聞いたことがあって、私もやってみようと探してみたら、レシピ、ありました。
I missed something, something has more texture. I remembered that one of my friends said that she made granola for breakfast and I thought I should try it too. I found a recipe for granola from another Jamie book,"Jamie's Food Revolution".

オーツをベースに、家にあるナッツ類、たね類、乾燥ココナツ、シナモンを混ぜ入れて、ハチミツをかけて混ぜてオーブンで焼く、そしてドライフルーツを混ぜ合わせる。そんなに簡単にグラノラってできるのね～！と作りながら感動。
It was very simple and I was quite impressed. You can add any nuts, seeds, and dried fruits as you like or whatever you have. I had walnuts, pecan, and almond, sunflower seeds, apricots and raisins,  and oats and shredded coconuts(it was nice because we had lots of leftover shredded coconuts for gingerbread house that we made last Christmas.
Plus honey and cinnamon and bake in the oven! Very nice!

うちにあったのは、くるみ、ピーカン、アーモンド、ひまわりの種、アプリコットとレーズン。これらを加えて作りました。クリスマスの頃にいつもジンジャーブレッドハウス作りで使う雪の代わりのココナツもたくさん消費できて嬉しいところ。
I didn't know that we could make granola so easily and the homemade one was so nice. I love it.
It is so nice that I know what I am putting in to make it, I can control mount of sugar(honey or maple syrup), I think eating homemade granola is very healthy. It is so yummy that I need to be careful not eating too much though!

これは、おいしい。
早速ヨーグルトとコンポートと一緒に朝食に食べたら、とっても美味しかったです。
週の始めに作っておけばその週毎日朝食に食べれそうな量なので、そうしようと思うのです。
グラノラを家で作るなんて大変そうって思ってやったこともなかったけれど、これだと市販のと違って口に残る甘さがないし、自分で何を入れているのか良くわかるし、気分や家にあるものによって中身を変えられるので気に入りました。おすすめです！
I am going to recommend to Col and Juliett for their breakfast too.
Eating it with some yogurt and the rhubarb comport was really, really good!

future career day

今日のジュリの登校はこのような格好で。
何の格好でしょう。
Juliett went to school today for their "future career dress up day".

今日は「将来なりたい職業の格好をして学校に行く日」。
２年前のプリスクールでもそういう日がありました。あの日はバレエの習い事があって、バレリーナの格好で行ったんでした。
I remember that she went to her pre-school in ballerina costume 2 years ago.

先週末に火曜日がその日だというお手紙をもらって、ジュリに何になりたいのか聞いてみたら、今年は即答でした。
We received a note about today and I asked her what she would like to be, she answered so quickly,

「探偵！」
"I am going to be a detective!"

なるほど。探偵ね。
もともとクイズや謎を解くのは大好きなジュリ、日本でじぃじと見たドラえもんの映画「のび太のひみつ道具ミュージアム」でさらに探偵のお仕事に憧れを抱くようになった様子。日本から戻ってきてから、学校の休み時間に友達と謎探しをして探偵ごっこをしてるなんて話も聞いてました。
I see. I know she likes to do puzzles and solve problems. After she went to watch the movie that was about detectives solve mystery of a museum with my dad in Japan, she has been very interested in detectives. She pretends to be a detective with her friends at every recess recently.

去年と今年、小さな町に住んでいてあぁ、残念！と思うのは、こういう急なイベントの時に近くにスリフトストアがないこと。たった１度のちょっとしたイベントのために手間をかけて作る必要はないと思うし、新品をそろえる必要もないと思う私。スリフトストアがあれば、工夫して材料を集めることができるし、それがすっごく楽しい！思い切って加工することもこれまた楽しいし！
Every time we have this kind of dress up events, I wish we had a nice thrift store around. It was so much fun when we lived in the city and we had some thrift stores there, I could easily gather what we needed and made things very nicely. But we don't have one here and Juliett had her very strong image of detective outfits...


でも先週末には街まで出る予定もなかったので、家の中にあるものでどうにか間に合わせないと。
ジュリの頭の中にしっかりと「探偵」のイメージがある様子。
彼女のイメージは、「ベージュのマッキントッシュコート、カモフラージュできるようにベージュのパンツ、ベージュの帽子、犬を連れていて、必要な道具を薄いスーツケースに詰めて持っている」とのこと。大きくなってくると注文もかなり具体的になってきます。
We didn't go to GP last weekend, so we needed to prepare with what we had at home.
Juliett told me what her image was.
"Beige coat(like a Mackintosh coat), beige pants(easy to camouflage), beige flat hat, brown leather thin suitcase, and carrying dogs."  

いろいろ提案しても（例えば「ファッショナブルな探偵はどう？」とか）、「それは違う」と却下。
We don't have any of them but Cutie, her stuffed dog.  I suggested, "how about a fashionable detective, like Nancy Clancy(Juliett liked to read the chapter books)?" and she said, "No". :)


うーん。。。Hmmm....

コートの代わりに、私が小さい時に着ていたというベージュのワンピースを見せると、「それ、なかなかいいかも！」と。ベージュのパンツはないので黒で我慢。犬はもちろんこのブログでもよく登場してるキューティーと、新入りキューティーの友達ビューティーにバイヤステープでリーシュを作ってOK。
Gradually she understood that we didn't have her perfect items and we had a fun time looking for things in our closet and boxes. We found my beige dress that I wore when I was young, Juliett's black pants, and we made a leash for Cutie and her friend, Beauty.   

帽子。。。ジュリはツイードの平らな帽子をイメージしていたようだけれど、のび太くんのシャーロック・ホームズ・セットにあった帽子を見て、耳当てを上に持ち上げて紐をリボンにしている帽子がいいと注文変更。
そのようなものは家にないので、と、町のダウンタウンをうろうろすると、２ドルで茶色のチェックの帽子発見。「これがぴったり！」と自分のお小遣いでその帽子を買った（私は驚いた）ジュリ。それに犬のリーシュ用に使ったバイヤスでなんちゃってリボンをつけて、帽子は完成です。
Hat. We went to the downtown and found a hat for $2, Juliett liked it so much, she even offered to buy with her allowance(that made me surprised) and she bought it, so it didn't have ear covers but I put ribbon around to pretend it looked a bit like "Sherlock Holmes" look hat.  

理想の革の薄いスーツケースもないのだけれど、「このバッグはポケットがいっぱいあって、探偵道具をきれいに収納できるから、柄は全然合わないけれどこれにする。」と部屋から見つけてきた昔のキャスの本の付録のバッグに、虫眼鏡、スパイ眼鏡（サイエンスミュージアムで友達とお揃いで買ったもの）、方位磁石、ノート、ペン、懐中電灯、そしてなぜか絆創膏を１枚入れて準備完了。
We don't have a thin leather suitcase. But Juliett was happy with her flower pattern bag that can hold her tools nicely. She put her notepad, a pen, a compass, a flash light, her spy glasses that she got at the science museum, a bandage, and her magnifying glass.  

名探偵ジュリエット。出来上がりました。
Here is the detective Juliett!

ジュリの思い描いていた姿とは違っちゃったけれど、それでもとっても嬉しそうに、「謎が全部解ける気がしてきた！」と言いながらルンルンで登校しました。
I guess this is not what she perfectly imagined but she was very happy this morning and went to school saying, " I feel I can solve any cases!"

探偵ものを憧れる気持ちは私も少しわかります。
私も謎解きは好きなほう。と言ってもレベルは低いですが。
I understand how much fun to solve problems and puzzles. I like that kind of things too.

日本にいた時はドラマ、というかテレビが大好きだったけれど、カナダに来て最初の３年は日本のNHKが映る番組が見られていたので、そのチャンネルばかり見ていてこちらの番組を見ることはあまりありませんでした。
でも、リスニング力の上昇（と信じたい）とあとはその日本番組が映らない村・町にいることで、カナダ（北米）のニュースをはじめ、いろんなショーを見るようになりました。
大好きなドラマがあって、それはこの日曜日でシーズンが終っちゃったのだけれど、「The Mentalist　メンタリストの捜査ファイル（邦題）」。 これは本当に面白くて、この２年間ほぼ欠かさず見ています。探偵、とは少し違うけれど、捜査のコンサルタント、パトリックが事件の真相を見つけ出していく様子がとても好きで、パトリックがかっこ良くて、女性捜査官のリズベンもすごくいい。一番好きなドラマです。
I liked to watch TV in Japan, but since I moved to Canada, I hadn't enjoy TV so much.
I have been in Canada for 5 years, I have some favourite TV shows. One is "The Mentalist", Patrick is not a detective, but I like his ways to investigate the crimes and also he is very cool. :) I have been watching the shows for 2 years.

あと、シャーロックホームズをもとに現代アメリカ版？にしたようなドラマ、「エレメンタリー」も時間が合うと見ています。 ワトソン博士がルーシー・リューっていうのがなんとなくおもしろくて。でも、メンタリストよりも理解するのが難しいと感じます。
I sometimes watch "Elementary". I like Lucy Liu as Dr. Watson, but I found that the stories are more complicated and difficult to understand to me than the Mentalist. 

今は図書館でリクエストして手元に届いた「メリーポピンズ」の続き「メリーポピンズ　カムズバック」をジュリに読んでいるけれど、次は探偵の本とか読んでみようかな。。。
Right now I am reading to Juliett "Mary Poppins comes back" that we requested at the library. Maybe after that I can start reading some stories about detectives? ;)

ちなみに、クラスでは獣医、動物園の動物係、野球選手、 ロックスター、陸軍、海賊、シェフ、などなどそれぞれ思い思いにドレスアップしてきたようで、一人一人仕事について、どうしてなりたいかを話したのだそう。こういう学校のイベントってすごく楽しいと思います。
Juliett came home very happily. She told me other children's dream jobs. There were rock stars, a baseball player, a zoo keeper, a vet, a chef, an army, a pirate, .... and more in her class, and they each explained what they were and why they wanted to be in the class. I thought that was a really fun event and I liked it!

first day out

気温がぐぐっと上がって、今日は午後に２４℃。
信じられないくらいです。しかも、珍しく風がなかった。
とっても気持ちが良くて、「暑い！暑い！」なんて言う贅沢な言葉が出てきました。
It was 24℃ this afternoon!
Wow! Hot!
I couldn't imagine that we could have a day we complained how hot it was! :)
Of course we had breakfast at the deck. It was so nice!

朝は早速パンケーキとフルーツをデッキで食べて、コーヒーを片手に幸せ。
サンドウィッチと飲み物（氷の入った水筒！これも今年初）と、リンゴをパックして、町から１０キロ先にある滝に行くことに。

本当は、山の上のほうから景色を見ようと別の方向に行ったのだけれど、雪解け水が山の中のでこぼこ道にたまって、うちの車では通れず断念。なので、方向転換して滝に。
今日は写真多めで。山の春の始まりの様子をどうぞ。
We decided to go on a picnic and headed to a mountain but the road(not highway) was so muddy with melted snow and we couldn't go, so we gave up and headed to the opposite way to Twin Falls.

広場に車を置いて、そこから滝まで歩きます。一応観光の地みたいだけれど、サインもなくて山の中に勝手に入って行ってそこにある滝を見る、そんな感じ。なので、道だってもちろん舗装もされてなくて、それがおもしろいところ。
ジュリは早速いいウォーキングスティックを見つけて、ぐんぐん進もうとします。
Juliett found a nice walking stick for herself but used in a different way(carrying her basket for Cutie).

あれ？ウォーキングスティックの使い方が。。？

でも、熊の季節は始まっていて、早速歩きながら主人が熊の今年の糞を見つけたので、ジュリは主人と私の間に。クーガーもいるだろうし。大きな声でしゃべったり歌を歌ったりしながら進みました。
She wanted to go forward very fast but Col found this season bear scat, so she walked between us.

「双子の滝」と言う名前みたい。川の向こうには山が広がっていて、写真よりもずっときれいな眺めでした。

この前にブランケットを敷いて、滝を見ながらランチ。
まだまだ茶色が多くて、エバーグリーンの木々以外は寂しい感じだけれど、それでも春のサイン、いくつか見つけました。
We had lunch by the fall. It was very good eating in the nature, listening to birds and the water falls.
It was a nice walk, we saw a gopher, we didn't see any flowers yet but saw some signs of Spring.

湖の横を通ったら（車で）、主人が上に飛んでいる鳥はオスプレイ（日本名はみさご）だと教えてくれました。私は「オスプレイ」と聞いて飛行機かと思って。。。
ゴーファーも見ましたよ。

ロビンを数羽見つけました。ロビン、おかえり！
まだまだ鳥や動物に詳しくない私たちだけれど、クリスマスに主人の両親からロッキー山脈に見られる鳥図鑑をもらったので、これからどんどん見つけて本に印をつけていきたいです。
We also saw an osprey flying above a lake, I don't know much about birds yet, we brought my bird book "Birds of the Rocky Mountains" that Col's parents gave me for one of Christmas gifts with us. I would like to find as many birds as I can in the book Juliett and I saw some robins and they made us very happy. Welcome back, robins!

ジュリはちょうちょがたくさん見れて大喜びでした。
ちょうちょと蛾もいっぱい飛んでいて、虫のいる季節、本当に春なんだなぁ。。。と実感しました。
We saw many butterflies and moths, Juliett was really glad to see them.

これからの季節が楽しみ。いっぱい町の周りを散策して行こうと思います。
We are so looking forward to exploring around the town in this Spring and Summer.

Welcome, Spring!

とうとう。これは来たと言っていいのかもしれない。
本当の春がついに、この山にも到来です！
Finally!
I think I can say "Spring has arrived!".

マイナスから始まった今週も、少しずつ気温が上がり、今日の午後には１３℃まであがりました。
やった～！今日はジュリもスノースーツを着ずにウィンドジャケットで。（初です）
It was cold early this week, but it became warmer and warmer... it was plus 13℃ this afternoon! YES! Juliett went to school without her snowsuit for the first time this year!

こうなるとカナダの人たち（特に若者）はすごいですよ、Tシャツは当たり前、キャミソール＆短パンとかで歩いていたりしますから。でも、気持ちは良くわかる。待ちわびていた暖かい太陽と外をコートなしで歩ける気候。それに、またいつ寒さが戻ってくるかわからないですし。

終了のベルが鳴って校舎から飛び出てきた子供たち、半そで率が高かったなぁ。。。もちろん、ジュリも。
We saw lots of children came out from school without jackets on, also we saw many young people in sleeveless or T-shirts.  I still need my fleece on(a bit windy here), but I do understand their feeling that finally, finally warm Spring has come and just want to enjoy sunshine and nice breeze. Spring/Summer is very short, we might have cold days again soon. (I hope not!) 

金曜は午後３時に仕事の終る主人を迎えにジュリと図書館まで歩きました。（風が出てきて上着着せました）
気持ち良かった～！空気がさらっとしていて、これで風さえなければ最高。ジュリと嬉しくて一歩一歩暖かい天気に感謝しながら歩きました。本当に気持ちが良かった。
後ろに見える山も随分青々としてきれいです。
Juliett and I walked to the library to meet Col after school.
It was soooooooo good, we enjoyed each moment, each steps!

ジュリはおもちゃのこいのぼりをデッキで風に泳がせてました。（写真、ちょっと泳いでないけど）
窓を長く開けていられるのも、デッキにわざわざブーツやジャケットを身につけることなく出るのも初めてです。嬉しいものですね。
These are Juliett's toy Koinobori. She spent a fun time letting them swim in the air at the deck. It was very nice to stand on the deck without wearing any heavy jackets or snow boots on.


夕方にはあちこちから大きい音楽とBBQのいい香り。そうです、そんな屋外パーティーの季節でもあります。今日はみんな嬉しい春の週末の始まりで、あちこちでお庭での夕食、なんでしょうね。
In the late afternoon, we heard music outside and noticed many people were having BBQ or gardening or chatting at their yards. It is a beginning of the Spring, of course! We should celebrate it too.  

外の美味しいにおいに刺激されて、うちも、今年初めておうちピザ焼きました。
コーンのとアンチョビのと、トマト＆バジルのとペパロニの。
そして、デッキに焼き立てピザを運んで食べたら、空の青と目の前に広がる山々、とっても気持ちのいい夕食になりました。 もう少し暖かくなったら、ここで週末の朝のコーヒー、のんびり飲もうね、と主人と話しました。贅沢な時間です。
So, we made our pizza and eat at the deck which was a wonderful time! We liked it! The mountains were so beautiful today. Col and I are thinking to have a cup of coffee in the morning when it gets a bit warmer. It will be a real treat.

ちょうど昨日の夜に出来上がったのは、「春を待ちわびる桜の手袋。」
本当の名前は、日本で買った三國万里子さんの本、「冬の編みもの」（文化出版局）から、「木のミトン」なんですが、先週末行ったクラフトストアで残り物の毛糸が大安売りしていて、マーサ・ステュワートさんのメリノウール（アメリカ製）、色名は「ミルクグラスピンク」で、昔大好きだった七五三のピンクの飴そのもののような色をした毛糸なんだけれど、優しい色なので桜の木をイメージして編もうと思って編んでみました。
こんなに甘くて優しい色は私の手には似合わないので、いずれはこういう色の似合う方へ。
寸法もぴったりで、手にびっくりするほど馴染む感じが本当に気持ちよくて、三國さんの編み図でもっと編んでみようと思いました。
While I was waiting for Spring, I knitted these mitts. The title was "tree mittens" (from a Japanese knit pattern book), so I made them with light pink yarn that I bought at Michel's(really good deal, wool 100% 50g for $1.99) and imagined cherry blossom flowers on trees. Actually the colour is a bit milkier than cherry blossom but I kind of like them and it was nice that I tried patterns I had never done before.
I am glad that we are having the season we don't need mitts at last! ;)

Tango no sekku

2012年秋に生まれた私たちの初の甥くん、ジュリの初のいとこくんの初・端午の節句のお祝いをしたくて、とてもささやかながらカナダでも少し飾ってみました。

初節句、おめでとう。
これからも健康で幸せで、そしてたくましくて優しい男の子になってね。
健やかな成長を遠くカナダから叔父さんと叔母さん、いとこのジュリは祈っています。
In Japan, May 5th is Children's Day and also "Tango no sekku"(boys festival). They wish for their future success and good health. We don't have boys in our family but we now have our nephew in Japan, he is having his first celebration. I would like to celebrate for him too!  

兜とかきつばたはカナダに越してきてから本当にお世話になっているこの本、布施知子さんの「おりがみ　四季折々」（NHK出版）から。この本は素敵な折り紙（難しいものも）がたくさんのっていて、活用させてもらっています。
We don't have Koinobori(carps) or a war helmet(or an armor), so I made Origami helmets and origami irises for the decoration.  

大きな折り紙や両面折り紙がなかったので、こちらで人気のスクラップブッキングアルバム用の紙で代用。こういうこともあるかと、和紙っぽい色合いものもを随分前にいくつか買っておいたので、それらが役立ちました。折り紙より随分大きくていいけれど、紙が特に両面のものだと厚いので、折るのが大変でした。
I wanted to make something little big, so I used scrapping paper instead of regular origami paper. But it was much harder to fold than origami paper... 

金色の兜はひとつ上の写真真ん中の赤と白の柄のものの裏が金色でそれを使ったんだけれど、とても硬くて、折ったところの表面が割れてしまったので金色の色鉛筆で修正。
かきつばたはジュリの色画用紙を使って折りました。花瓶がないのでカップで失礼(下のジュリの写真）と思ったけれど、ちょっと安っぽいので、トイレットペーパーの芯に和紙を巻いて即席花瓶に。
We don't have Japanese vases at home, I used a plastic cup at first(photo below) but it looked a bit cheap, so I wrapped a toilet roll with Japanese washi paper and made a pretend vase. I think that is better than the cup. :)

てぬぐいは「かまわぬ」さんのを日本で買いました。（かけてるのはスカート用ハンガーでこれまた失礼）
ちりめんの鯉はいただいたもの。
ジュリはかきつばたの試作品をもらって大喜び。花の妖精のワンドにするんだそう。
Juliett was lucky to receive one of my irises, she said that she was going to use as a wand for flower fairy.
My mom's neighbor is good at making things with chirimen(Japanese traditional fabric), she gave me those fish. I bought the Koinobori pattern cloth(tenugui) in Japan.     

今日は強風で出せなかったけれど、日本でおもちゃのこいのぼりをもらったので、ベランダにつけようと思います。柏餅も食べたいけれど、柏の葉がないので。。。恒例の白玉団子、作ろうかな。
I might make Japanese sweets on the 5th. I hope the weather is great for the celebration. 

お天気のいいお祝いの日になりますように。

after school treat

５月、始まりました。
マイナス２℃スタートの今朝だけれど、気温がぐっと上がって予報ではプラス１０℃近くまでなるみたい。そして週末に向かって気温も落ち着いて上がったままでいるみたい（あくまでも予報だけれど）なので、窓から眺める山々も気持ち緑色になったような気さえします。
It's May.
We started our first day of May with -2℃ this morning, but it will be plus 10℃ this afternoon and the weather forecast says that the temperature will stay around 10℃, so that is very exciting.

さて、「世間は春なのにまだこんな冬景色なの」自慢？も、今回が最後であることを願います。
I am tired of writing about "how sad we are still having winter" story, I hope this will be the last. 

昨日、主人が放課後に先生たちのミーティングが隣町であるということで、 ジュリと私も一緒について行くことにしました。
隣町、と言っても、月に１，２回大きな買出しに行く街と距離はほとんど変わらず、ハイウェイで１時間半ちょいかかります。方向としてはさらにロッキー山脈の中を進む感じ。
Col had a meeting in a town H yesterday after school, I thought it would be nice driving in mountains so I baked some cinnamon raisin bagels for snack and we all went to the town.  

寒いながらも青空だった私たちの町、「これは景色のいいドライブになるね！」と、張り切っておやつ用に焼いたシナモンレーズンベーグルとコーヒーを持って、車に乗り込みました。
It was cold but we had clear sky in our town, and I also checked the weather of the town H, and it said clear too. We were happy driving in nature for the first 30 minutes or so....

ところが。

山の天気は変わりやすい、そんなことは地元・箱根の山を何度も運転しているから知っていたけれど、変わりすぎ。突然始まった粉雪、フリージングレイン、そして雪の塊が大きくなって、本気でこのまま吹雪にのまれて冬の世界に入り込んでしまうような気持ちにさえなりました。
この写真、「これからクリスマスホリディでカルガリーに向かっています」って書いてもしっくりきてしまう。
Then it started snow and freezing rain, then snow got bigger... Juliett and I felt as if winter fairy or something took us to a winter land with the snow storm. "We don't want to go to a winter land! "
(It takes one and a half hours on Highway to get to the town.)

しかも、夕方ということもあって、鹿たちがあちこちに。
どうか道路に飛び込んでこないでね、そう願いながら慎重に進みました。
We saw lots of deer and elks too. We just hoped they wouldn't jump/run into the road.

着いた隣町は青空。良かった、冬の世界に飲み込まれなかった。
主人がミーティングの間、ジュリが楽しみにしていたマックで夕食＆プレイエリアでそこに来ていた子供たちと思いっきり遊び（私は編み物）、 近くの大きなスーパーで買い物。
We arrived the town safe, not a winter land. :) While Col was at the meeting, Juliett and I were at McDonald's and we also did some shopping.

マクドナルドでは今、時期限定のハッピーミールのおもちゃが特になかったようで、担当してくれた若い男の子はジュリが女の子だからとバービーみたいなお人形のおもちゃをくれました。
でも、ジュリはバービーに興味が全くなくて、「私、おもちゃを楽しみにしていたけれど。。。これは空けないで誰かこういうのが好きな人にあげようかと思う」と。それもいいアイディアだけれど、マックに来るのなんて年に数回だし、行きの車の中でおもちゃ何かなぁって楽しみにしていたので、何かジュリが使えそうな他のおもちゃと交換できるか一応聞いてみようということになりました。
We don't eat out much, we do when we go to GP but that is once a month, so we only eat out(include fast food restaurants)once or twice a month. Juliett was looking forward to having a happy meal for herself, especially a toy. But what she received was a bit angry looking doll.
She looked a little disappointed and said, " I am not a big fan of Barbies. I wanted something else but... I won't open this and I will give this to someone who likes dolls."
Hmm...  that was nice that she thought she would give someone who needed, but I knew she was looking for a treat for herself...   

火曜の夜、ガラガラの店内、私がカウンターでその旨を話してみたら、バイトの若者たちが「いいよ！いまあるの持ってきてあげる。」と、現在在庫のあるもの（今までのキャンペーンの残り物だと思う）を３つ、持ってきてくれました。
It was not busy in the restaurant, so I went to the counter with Juliett and asked if they had more toys that she could choose from. And the lady was kind and nice, "OK, I will bring what we have right now!" and she brought 3 more toys.  

その瞬間にジュリの目がキラリ。「私、これがすっごくすっごく欲しかったの！ありがとう！」と、嬉しそうに手にとったのは、ポケモンのお人形。
「お、好きなのがあって良かったね。」とお姉さん。ありがとう！
"Could I have this one instead of this doll, please?" Juliett was really excited when she saw the Pokemon toy.
"No problem, that's nice you got something you like." Thanks to the lady, Juliett was very happy with her special souvenir.   

ファーストフードを含めて外食なんて月に１度か２度の私たち、マックの巨大プレイルームでいっぱい遊んでおもちゃをもらって、ジュリはとっても嬉しかったみたい、車の中ではこのお人形を握り締めて寝てました。
She had a fun time at the play area with other children too, I had good time knitting with a cup of Americano. 

私の頼んだのはカシューナッツと枝豆ののった照り焼きチキンサラダ。ソースがちょっと濃かったけれど、美味しかったです、今度サラダにカシューものせてみよう！

思っていたよりもミーティングが長くて、終ったのが９時。。。すでにジュリの就寝時間が過ぎていて焦ったけれど、帰りの車でずっと寝て、そのままベッドで寝てくれたので、今朝はモリモリ元気に学校行きました。
帰りは日も沈み始めて、さらに鹿やエルクの姿が増えてきょろきょろしまくりの道中、でも雪にはあいませんでした。家に着いたのは１１時。久々に見上げた夜空は星がきれいでした。
さぁ、これから新緑の５月の様子が書けますように！
The meeting was much longer we imagined (3 hours), so it was Juliett's bed time when we met Col, she slept all the way home in the car and went straight to her bed, that was good.
It was getting dark but we still had some light and no snow on the way home, we got home at 11:00, it was nice to see some stars in the sky.
