My international friends got so excited when they knew my birthday was around. They planned a lunch party. I like them very much, they are always so cheerful, powerful, optimistic, and smiling/laughing. The lunch party was today.
I remembered that each of us would bring their own country meal. I was going to make Gyoza, which is I think originally from China, which is not my home country,.. anyway, I know lots of people like my gyoza, that's why I asked Col to pick some ground pork and Chinese cabbage on the way from school yesterday.
But I wanted to bake something too, beause I know they like my bagels and sweets. So I baked marble chocolate cheese cake. It is one of my favourite dessert.
This morning, when I was about to start making gyoza and I took out the meat from refrigerator, I thought the meat looked much redder. And I saw the label, which said "extra lean ground beef".... :(
Ahhhh.... What a mistake! I don't make gyoza with ground beef! I looked at the shopping list I gave to Col yesterday and saw "ground beef" on it, yes, I made mistake. I was so disappointed.
But I didn't have much time, no time to run to downtown. So I made a typical Japanese dish "Nikujaga". I also made some rice balls for children. (I was in hurry and didn't take any photos.)
At our friend's house, on the table, I saw beautiful Thai salad, and Mexican soup with some rice, pasta, and tortillas. Everything looked really delicious!
This Thai salad, I like it quite a lot. But SPICY to me! Not spicy to my friends at all!
Three of them eat it so normally, they say that they don't say that is spicy, their spicy is much more spicy. :) My mouth burns every time I eat this salad(this was my second time to eat it) but something attracts me and I don't stop eating. It is really good, and I like the colourfulness too.
These were brought by our Mexican friend, it was so good. Juliett liked the potato and beef soup too.
The friend showed us how to eat it, she put a tortilla on a plate, then put some rice on, then put some soup on the rice(not make it too soggy). Then she rolled it nicely and ate it. It was interesting to see the way. I gave a silly question to her, "do you eat pasta in Mexico?", then I realized that I don't know much about the country. It will be very interesting to know other countries from my ESL classmates and I am excited about it.
Our Canadian friend was so busy lately and didn't have a time to cook but she bought us this "Happy Birthday" cake! She even lit a candle and sang "happy birthday song" and brought it to me! What a surprise! I didn't expect it at all. The cake was orange flavour and it was good!
I was just so surprised by their kindness. I never expected that I would have many friends in this town, and they would celebrate my birthday. I was full of thankful for them and their kindness. They asked me to wish something before blowing the candle, what I thought about was only one thing, their happiness.
One of our friends is going to move next week. It was so soon to say good bye. I am going to help them as much as I can next week and I really hope they will have their happy life at their new place.
My Canadian friend even gave me this present. Everything was what I was interested in, especially the succulent plant! I have been actually seeing them on Internet and curious to get some for my table. She has wonderful friends around (she is also a very lovely person) and she introduced them to me, that's why now I have more friends. I really appreciate her great friendship.
