今日は今まで仕事・ボランティア関係で作っていた手作りも載せようかなと思って、そんな記事をアップです。自分の趣味としての手作りは最近ずっとできていないひとつの理由は、仕事外の時間にやっぱり家でプランを立てたり、サンプルを作るからかもしれない。好きなことだから楽しんでやってます。
職場でみんなが働いている横で折り紙を折っているのは、「いい、家に持ち帰らずにやりなさい」と言われてもなんだか気が引けると言うか、そういうところが「日本人だ」と言われるのだけれど、私にはできないので、家に持って帰ってやっています。実際、その方が楽しいし！
I found some photos I haven't shown yet on my blog.
These are crafts I made for my work and volunteer in winter time.

ひとつめは、仕事場で子供たちや初心者を対象に週に１度やっている折り紙クラブのディスプレイ。毎月作るものをテーマごとに変えてテーブルに飾っています。なので、この他にもたくさんあります。折り紙クラブのサインも折り紙で。最初は半分に折るのもはみ出ちゃったりうまくいかなかった子供たちも今じゃ上手になりました。出来上がった時の嬉しそうな笑顔にいつも励まされています。折り紙さいこ～！
I run "Origami Club" at work. These are the samples I made for display. :)
I change themes every month, so I have made a lot more samples for April and coming May.
I enjoy Origami Club a lot. I like to see childrens' happy faces when they made something cool. And that encourage me to plan more and prepare something fun for the future.

 これは結構気に入っているもの。
２月にガールガイドの大きなイベントThinking Dayがあった時に、会場のジム内でもちろんキャンプファイヤーや火を使うものは禁止なので、薄い紙と新聞紙とあと真ん中に懐中電灯を入れて、電気を消して懐中電灯の光がうっすらと赤とオレンジの紙を通して光る、そういうのを作りました。
子供たちに大好評。みんなマシュマロを焼く真似をしたり、温まる真似をしたり。
When we celebrated World Thinking Day 2016 with Guides, Brownies, and Sparks in February, we did "camp fire" night at the gym. I was asked to make a camp fire and made this with some tissue paper, news paper, and a flash light. Girls were happy pretending roasting marshmallows and warming their hands by the fire. They were so cute.
Thanks to Pinterest, it has tons of wonderful ideas!

 これは、仕事で折り紙クラブと同時に編み物クラブもはじまったのだけれど、ガールガイドのミーティングの日と重なってしまって私は参加できないので、せめてディスプレイでもと思って、「本」を勝手に編んで、編み物の本たちと一緒に飾りました。「本」と言っても、１ページずつなんだけれど、ちょっとこだわっていて、左の「ニット」と書いてあるページは「ニット（表編み）」で、右のページは「パール（裏編み）」で。
これは、編み物をやる人たちは「あぁ。。！」と思ってもらえるかなと思って。
私はこれはすっごく気に入ってます。アイディアが浮かんだとき、ウキウキしました。
We also have knitting club at work. I can't join it because I have Guides the day and I don't work on Wednesdays but I wanted to contribute something to the club. So I knitted this "book" for display.
When I started knitting the cover first, I came up with this idea with knit and purl stitches!
I still think this is such a cute book. :)

最後は、これはイースター休暇でジュリとやったマーブルカップのあとに１ドルストアでお皿を買って、３色のマニキュアでチャレンジしたもの。きれいに色が出て、気に入ってリビングに飾っています。
Julie and I did marble patterned cup craft during Spring holiday. I bought a plate at a dollar store later and made this one with 3 different colour nail polishes. I liked it a lot! The marble is so pretty on the white plate. I used gold, turquoise, and teal.

という感じで、楽しんでます。また大きな編物プロジェクトとか、ベイキングもしてみたいけれど、もう少しの間はお預けかもしれない。
でも、折り紙クラブのプランを立てるのがすっごく楽しい。毎回４種くらい作っているので、みんなどんどんいろんなものができるようになってきています。
I haven't done much crafts, knitting and baking at home but I enjoy planning, making samples and displays at home for work and volunteer.

仕事、お金をもらう責任のある仕事を英語ですること、始めてから４か月経った今もまだまだ覚えること、大変なこといっぱいあって本当に脳が他のことが考えられなくなるほど疲れます。正直、本当に家事が後回しになってしまってます。ガールガイドのボランティアも責任重大だし、へとへと。でも、去年の９月から本当にこれらの経験を通じていろんなことを学んだと思うし、好きなことに関わる仕事ができているのだから、幸せだと思って頑張ってます。
夏休み（仕事は続くけど）まであと２か月！だんだんバランスがうまく取れていけたらいいなと思います。
It has been 4 months since I started working. I still feel very very tired, especially my brain gets so tired every after work and Guides. But happy kids at Origami club, happy kids with crafts and happy Guides always encourage me to keep going. It's a lot of work, through those experiences I have learnt a lot. I appreciated all the opportunities. I hope I can handle them better, have a good balance with family, work, and volunteer next year.

chocolate marshmallow

仕事のなかった金曜日に作ったおやつのマシュマロ。
日本に行った時に、母の棚にあったのを見つけて、欲しいとお願いして（ほぼ無理やり）もらってきたフォションのココアのもと。それを入れて高級チョコレート味にしました。
I made those chocolate flavoured marshmallows on Friday.
I used the hot chocolate mix(picture above)  plus some coco powder to give flavour. I added it when the marshmallow was mixed and fluffed really well like I usually do when I use liquid extract. But I should have mix them in much earlier or should have made the sugar and coco melted in some hot water ahead and added it.

出来上がって、すごくいい香りで、楽しみに食べてみたら、じゃり、じゃりっと砂が入っているような触感。なんじゃ、これは。

そうか。。。
レモンのオイルを入れる時などはリキッドだから、気にしないで一番最後の過程で入れていたけれど、パウダー類、特に砂糖の粒が入っていたりすると、多分、少しのお湯にとかしてから早めに混ぜなくてはならないのかもしれない。
When we tried those marshmallow, we felt strange, something like eating a marshmallow that has some sand in it. I guess the sugar crystals in the coco mix didn't melt in marshmallow well and when we eat the soft and fluffy marshmallows, we can actually feel those crunchiness. :( Col didn't like it at all. Julie and I still eat them but feel strange(tasted good though).

勉強になりました。
じゃりじゃり感も、食べると癖になって、ジュリと私はパクパクいけるけれど、主人からは合格はもらえませんでした。次回は溶かしてみます。でも、濃厚でいいチョコレートの味が出ていました。
Well, I learned. I will make better ones next time.

piano

遠く離れた母国で大変なことが起こったことをニュースで知るたびに胸が痛みます。
どうか、地震が早くおさまること、そして被害が広がらないことを心から願っています。

気まぐれのジュリがまた、ピアノに少し興味を持ち始めました。
ピアノの先生をしているお友達に教えてもらった本を、また一からやり直しています。

練習が終わって、適当に自分でならしている時に、偶然聞こえた音、それがジュリがガールスカウトのみんなと歌って好きになった歌の始まりの音と同じことに気づいたようで、「私、音を紙に書いてみる！そしたら後でもまた見て弾けるから！」と、今朝は2時間以上、ピアノの前に座って、CやらGやら、普通のノートに少し弾いて音を探しては書きこむ、そんな作業をしていました。

そんな様子をキッチンから何となく見ていながら、私が小さい頃にしていたことと同じことをしている、と、なんだか不思議な気持ちになりました。私も、好きな歌謡曲を楽譜に起こしたくて（と言っても、主旋律だけ）、両親が買ってくれたエレクトーンとピアノの前に座って、何度も何度も弾いてはノートに（五線）に書いて、を繰り返したっけ。

ジュリと過ごしていると、私の娘だからって私が好きなことをジュリも好きってことはないと言うのをすごく感じるけれど（彼女は特に父親似なので）、今日夢中になって音を探している様子を見て、へぇ。。。と思いました。意外でした。

写真は全部ノートにCDE,,で記入した後、私が「楽譜に起こしてみたら？」と誘ってジュリが挑戦したもの。算数は好きだからリズムはなかなかうまく小節ごとに入れられた。けれど、最初にその曲が何拍子なのか考えるのにはかなり時間がかかっていたな。。。

私も教えている割に、日本語では言葉が出て来るけれど、四分音符とか、ト音記号とかそういうの、英語でなんて言うかなんて知らなくて。これからもジュリが興味を持つようだったら私も一緒に勉強しようと思います。
ま、彼女はメインのパートが楽譜に起こせただけでかなり満足気だったので、どうだろうか。

April 9th

１１年前に日本でウェディングパーティーをしたことを思い出して、昨日は久々にケーキを焼きました。
ブラウニーが下にあるチーズケーキ。濃厚でおいしいんです。
It has been 11 years since we had our wedding party in Japan(this is not our wedding anniversary).
I baked this cheese cake with brownies for our a little special day yesterday.

あの時に、父が挨拶で涙を流しながら、「国際結婚の彼ら。１０年後、彼らがどこに暮らしているか、全くわかりません。日本かもしれないし、カナダかも、それ以外の国かもしれない。でも、みなさん、どうぞこれからも、どこにいたとしても彼らのことをよろしく見守っていてください。」、みたいなことを言ってくれたことを今も覚えています。
I remember my dad's speech with tears at the party.
In his speech he said he couldn't even imagine where Col and I would be in 10 years(he meant that not necessarily in Japan, could be in England, or Canada, or somewhere else). Now, not only me being away from my parents, but also my brother living in the U.S....., it must be hard for my parents not to be able to see their grand children(and children) often.

主人と夜にケーキを食べながら、「私たちどころか、弟家族まであの時には全く想像もしなかった海外暮らしだね。」と話しました。
孫や子供に簡単に会えないことはやっぱり寂しいだろうな。

これから１０年先、私たちはどこにいるのだろう。
I wonder where we will be in 10 years.

to Jasper

春のサインです。
気候・地形上、この町では野生のクロッカスは見かけないけれど、木曜日にジャスパーに行って、軽いハイキングをして見つけました。この野生のクロッカス、大好きです、いっぱい毛が生えていてふわふわしています。

We don't see them in town, but we saw them in Jasper.

何度行っても、ウキウキします。山の中に暮らしていても、ジャスパーに行くたびにワクワクします。
Even though we live in the mountains, I love to go to Jasper. I always get excited when I see those huge mountains on the way there.

ツーリストインフォメーションセンターで１時間ちょいでできる５キロ以内のハイキングコースをいくつか聞いて、今まで行ったことのないトレイルを選びました。
Col asked the tourist information centre about some short hiking trails to go to. We did a 3.7km hike in the woods.

急な斜面をぜぇぜぇ言いながら登ると。。。
Climbing up the hill was hard....but when we got to the top, the view was fantastic.

ジュリは変わった木を見つけて、ベンチだ！と、休憩。
Julie found an unique tree, she called it 'a bench tree" and had a nice rest sitting on it.

 あぁ、困った。トレイルを進みたいのに彼らが。。。
Oh, no.... mountain sheep are on the trail ahead...

 あぁ、遠回りをしようとしても、そっちの先にも別のグループが。。。
Let's go around them...oh, no.... another group of sheep....

さらに遠回りをしてどうにか羊たちに会わずにトレイルの先の戻ることができました。
トレイルを歩きながら見つけたものの写真をいくつか。
We walked around the groups of sheep cautiously and got back on the trail.

 ジュリはこれを嬉しそうに見ていました。左の枝の上にリスがいて、このたくさんの穴は多分住処で、その周りには数えきれないほどの松の実の食べかすが落ちていました。ジュリはこれを「リスのアパートメントだ！」と呼んでました。
Julie liked to see these holes, she called them "an apartment for squirrels". :)

もうたくさんの動物たちに会っているので、今回新しい動物に会うことができませんでしたが、（リストの残りはリンクスとかカリブーとか珍しいものばかりで。。）、今回も楽しい時間を過ごせました。
ジャスパー、これからの色の変化が楽しみです。
We have seen so many different animals in Jasper national park, so we didn't have a surprise this time(we haven't seen a lynx or a caribou yet), but we had a great time there as always.
I am looking forward to our next visit.

Harry Potter Party

ハロウィンのコスチュームは、時間をかけて手作りしても、２、３回着てもらったらラッキー、という感じなのですが、この２０１４年に作った衣装に関しては、出番が多くて、本当に作って良かったなぁ。。。と思います。
I am so glad about that Julie has had so many chances to wear the costume I made. Usually she wears her costume 2 or 3 times around Halloween, but this one, she has worn more than 5 times! It was worth making with a lot of time.

手作りのフォトブースで。

７月に新しい本が発売されるから？そうでなくても、ハリーポッターはいつまでたっても流行遅れでないものですね。「クラッシック」というカテゴリーになるんだろうな。
土曜日に、買い出しに行く街の大きな図書館が図書館内で「ハリーポッターパーティー」を３時間にわたって行うのを知って、ジュリと参加してきました。
While Col was having so much fun at a game store playing Magic The Gathering yesterday, Julie and I found a cool event at the library in the city, "Harry Potter party" at the library for 3 hours long!

その前に。
木曜日に仕事から帰ると、ジュリが「ダディがニンバス２０００を買ってくれた！」と小躍りしていて、見せてもらうと、ネコヤナギ？（プッシーウィロー）で作ったほうきでした。２人で山に散歩に行って家にあったウォーキングスティックにウィローを結び付けて作ったらしい。ジュリは木の枝を洗うのを手伝ったり、２人で楽しんだようで、主人やるじゃん！と思ったのでした。
でも残念ながら、ほうきは邪魔になっちゃうからイベントの日は家で留守番でした。
But before writing about the event. I need to mention about this broom. When I came back from work on Thursday, Julie was jumping around with this cool broom. She told me that Col took Julie to the woods and they made this broom with one of our walking sticks we had at home.
We didn't take it to the event but I thought that was such a cool thing Col did with Julie.

工夫された手作りがいっぱい。しかも、混んでも子供たちが退屈しないように、大きな図書館内のあちこちにステーションズが準備されていて、３時間があっという間に過ぎた本当に楽しいイベントでした。
I was just so amazed by so many wonderful creative ideas, preparations, and staff in costume all over in the library. They had fun stations everywhere and children(and parents) had great fun at the event for sure!

スキャバンジャーハント、ストーリータイム、クラフト３種、ボール投げのクウィディッチなどゲーム３種、そしてお話にも出てきたO.W.L.sテスト、までありました。
Scavenger hunt, story time, crafts, games, and they even had O.W.L.s exam!

パーティーの始まりにくじ引きみたいな感じでソーティング。ジュリはハフルパフになりました。それからあったいろんなアクティビティーでポイントを集めていって、最後にどのハウスが一番得点を取ったか、発表とプレゼントがありました。
Julie was sorted to Hufflepuff. She tried her best to earn as many points as possible for her house.

きっと図書館の人たちもハリーポッターシリーズが大好きなんだろうな、手作りのこだわりレベルがすごく良かったです。暖炉から飛んできたように見える封筒たちにはしっかりと緑のインクで宛先が書いてあって、それが図書館のスタッフ宛だったり、本のキャラクター宛だったり。
さらに、暖炉の横にはフルーパウダーまでありましたよ。
So many cool decorations and displays. I love this letters flying from the fireplace. They even got addresses with green ink to the library staff and characters of Harry Potter series!

私は付き添いで居ただけだったんだけれど、別室で行われたO.W.L.sテストはジュリとチームになって、参加しました。かなりマニアックなハリーポッターシリーズに関する筆記試験を３０分。これは本当に良くできていてすっごく楽しかった！
I wasn't doing the activities(I was supervising Julie), but I joined to take the O.W.L.s exams. It was such a great time, the quiz was quite tricky(maniac) and fun! It tool 30 minutes to do the all questions and I think everyone had SO MUCH FUN!!

スリザリンが勝ってジュリは少し残念そうだったけれど、本当に工夫されているいいイベントでした。
大都市じゃなくてもティームワークと創作力でできるんだなぁ。。。感心しました。
Hufflepuff didn't win but Julie really enjoyed the event.
Thanks to all the library staff who planned and prepared this fantastic event.
I saw their great teamwork and fantastic creativities.

a nature walk / a bag for Julie

ここのところ、本当に暖かいです。カルガリーでは昨日、２３度だったとか。
It has been so warm. We are having a gorgeous Spring weather during our Spring holiday.

家族で散歩に行きました。
ネコヤナギ？（プッシーウィロー）がもうふわふわ目を出していて、やっぱり今年は早いと思う。
カラス以外の、冬は南下してしまう鳥もあちこちに。そういう春のサインを見ると、これからの美しい季節が本当に楽しみになります。
We went for a walk the other day. It was so nice to walk outside. We enjoyed smelling Spring, finding signs of Spring, and listening to birds which were not ravens. :)

 今年は山登りできるかな。
I hope we can clime some mountains this Summer.

でも、トレイルは雪が凍って、スケートリンクのようになっていて、歩くのが大変でした。
これから草が出てきて、マッシュルームが出てきて、花が咲いて。。。山の変化が楽しみです。
The trail was frozen, like an ice trail, so it was hard to walk on it. I am looking forward to seeing the change in a few weeks(months)...grass will start growing, mushrooms are coming, and flowers blooming.

夜は手芸。
ジュリがずいぶん前に作ってあげた左のバッグをずっと使っていて、市販のものを買おうと言っても使いやすいからと聞いてくれないので、ジュリと相談して、これから使えそうなものを、ちょっと大きめに、ちょっと長めに、そしてジュリが選んだ生地で（と言っても家の中にあったものから）作りました。中に大きいものも入れられるポケットと、小さいポケットをつけて、中の生地はこれもジュリの選んだ水玉（クルミボタンと同じもの）で。
本も数冊入るし、使い勝手がいいと喜んでいます。
Juliett has been using the bag(left) I made a few years ago and she loves it. I have asked her to buy one which has good functions at a store, but she doesn't like to. The bag is getting to be worn out.  I talked to her and we decided to make a new bigger one. She picked the fabric from my fabric boxes and I made a little bit bigger with a longer strap bag. I made 2 nice pockets inside, She also picked a piece of fabric to use for inside. :)
She is very happy with her new bag.
